Question about eating
so you all know I had surgery 5/2, am one week out. My pain is basically gone except for some random abdominal pain in the evenings when I lie down, that I attribute to muscles healing, etc.
right now im eating 3 meals per day and no snacks, which are soups and a shake. Sometimes though I feel so weak and dizzy like I need to sleep. Today I did lie down for a nap but I only slept 30 minutes so maybe not as sleepy as I thought. I'm wondering if I need to add in snacks to keep my blood sugar level steady, perhaps that's what's causing the dizziness. Thoughts?

Hey- I had similar issues and almost all the time in the early afternoon. it did go away about 3 or so weeks out. We were in walmart walking when I got really dizzy and ill- I bought a muscle milk there in the store and drank it. It made me feel much better. When I left the house I always had a protein shake with me, powerade zero or water.
my surgeon wants me on 6 small meals a day- so I try to eat every 2-3 hours.
And I still have random right side pain (though mild) getting into bed and I will be 5 months on the 15th
Maybe add some broth that is super low cal in between your meals and see if that helps.
also- go take a nap if you want one- you just had major surgery
Personally, I was eating more often back then. Even now I eat 5 meals a day (3 meals and 2 snacks). You definitely want to stick to plan, so if you're uncomfortable eating more without talking to your surgeon, call the office and ask them if it's okay to add in a little something.
It could be that you are just tired because of the surgery, but as long as you keep your calories low spreading them out a bit more might help. Are you diabetic?
Its doubtful you have a blood sugar issue. If you didn't have a low blood sugar problem before surgery, you probably didn't develop one overnight.
The likeliest answers are not drinking enough, and flat out just being tired and worn out a mere week after major surgery.
It takes a while to fully recover. Some feel the effects two or three months later. And you need extra fluid. 64 ounces is the rule of thumb, but yhat is just a guess. You may need twice that to feel your best.
See if you can borrow a blood sugar meter to test when you are feeling poorly. It would make finding an answer a lot simpler.

I'm going to read through my manual again tonight. I think once you get in regular food he wants you having pretty much three meals with minimal snacks, but the calories are also set a bit higher--like 1000, so I wasn't planning on on going thy high anyway.
Im not diabetic and I don't I'm think I'm dehydrated but I will up my water intake just in case.
Thanks ya'll!

IN the beginning, I felt the same way. When I was cleared for exercise (around 4 weeks post op) I went to an easy yoga class and almost passed out THREE times! Saw the white sparkles fighting the black sparkles and everything.
So, I had to limit my exercise to just walking. And I did that for 2 months. I think it is because the calories are so low and we are losing weight so fast.
I called my surgeons office, they werent concerned. They just told me to go easy in the beginning.

Three pounds below Goal!!! Yay !
To be perfectly honest it's the surgical recovery and a little bit starvation. I'm about a week ahead of you and felt the same about 1 week out. Make sure you're getting your protein.
