Is being nervous after your initial consultation normal?

I have several friends who have had RNY and Mini Gastric Bypass surgery and all are doing well.  Today, I went to my first consultation and left there feeling nervous yet excited.  Is this a normal feeling?  Any input you are willing to share about when you started the process to have your WLS would be so welcome.  Have a great evening.  :-)

I'm having RNY on June 6. I flipped my calendar forward today and saw my pre op appointment on the 27th and the reality of it i****ting me. I think if you weren't nervous, we'd be worried!

If you weren't nervous I'd be worried you weren't taking this whole thing seriously. You are doing fine, enjoy the excited part. A new life is headed your way!

Nervous....of course!!!!

You just made the leap of having the "idea for surgery" TO " OMG this is really happening"!!!

My wait time was 18mths.....so I had ample time to figure things out in my own mind and get prepared.  Education and good info about what's to come will make things easier.  I am not the type that likes surprises !!!

Thank you, MonaLisaSmile.

I appreciate your encouraging words. I have been educating myself about this since 2013. My friend had it and looks amazing. That was in Mobile, AL and I moved to South Carolina last July and I am just now getting situated with new doctors and I am positive this is what I need. Let's keep in touch!  ?

God I remember although it's been a long time ago. Mine was a little different. I first started checking into RNY with gathering

info on the surgery, life afterwards, health negatives vs. positives, etc.  I actually put it on hold at that time figuring I was going

to give it one more try the old fashioned way with diet and exercise. Of course I got the same old results. Some weight lost and then

gained back plus a few more. I them committed and started a year plus battle with my insurance company. Long story short I guess I was

bit nervous at first but the excitement of what my life could be and shear determination to get it approved took over and replaced the

initial nervousness. The next set of nerves were good one in the form of excitement once things were moving ahead and I finally

got a surgery date. Believe me what your feeling is totally normal. Hell what is normal anyway. It's a little different for everyone actually.

You've  got a lot of people on here who are a wealth of information so make sure you feel free to voice whatever it is that is on your

mind. There is no question to small or too dumb. Especially in aftercare and life after surgery.

Very best of luck on your exciting journey to your new life. It is a great ride and incredible once you've reached all your goals! Rich
