One week post op. Feeling quite sad.

That notorious buyer's remorse is setting in.  I'm finally losing the extra fluid weight from surgery but still 7 lbs over my surgery day weight.  Blood pressure high. I hate the way the whey protein tastes in everything. I'm sad. my family is trying to be supportive but they really don't know what to do.   They don't want to eat real food around me and I tell them to go out, but then I am alone.  They didn't make this decision and I hate foisting this different person on them.  (quiet, moody fragile).  Please tell me it gets better. I realize logically that 1 week out from a major surgery is not long. Give it time. But I am definitely at a low point.  Thank you for your support.

The first few weeks are rough, but I PROMISE it gets better.  I think about week 6 I started feeling somewhat normal again.  I wanted to press the "undo button" so bad, but now I'm glad I couldn't/didn't.

Thank you so much glittergirly.   Only those who've gone through it can really help.

Realize your hormones go crazy after surgery too, and you body is in "What just happened???" mode... Hang in there and it will get better. Focus on moving your body and getting your protein and fluids in...

Thank  you Cynthia.  I forgot about the hormones.  One day at a time.  It's great to know the life preservers are there!

No advice for you, just wanted to say I understand. I have been sad, *****y and angry for the past few days and I am 6 days out. I feel a little better each day but have definitely had the feeling of WTH have I done to myself?

(((Hugs))), this is all going to be worth it.

BIG HUGS FOR YOU!

It definitely gets better - a LOT better and eventually it all becomes just normal!  It took me about 12 days to see any loss post-op.  But then, BOOM, I lost a bunch.  The buyer's remorse is nearly universal at this point - we've all BTDT and gotten thru it to a happier place, and you will too!  At one week post op, I was back in the hospital with lots of bloody BMs.  I was so freaked out, but it turned out to be a simple solution - they took me off the blood thinner and I got better within 2 days.  Remember that the hormones are raging weirdly right now and will for a little while longer, but then things even out and when you see some loss your whole attitude changes.  Hang in there!!

Dear Heavens! THank you so much for the uplifting words of support. I can't even imagine adding bloody BMs in the mess right now.  One day at a time!!

It will pass. It is almost like it's necessary to go through this at the beginning. I think it just takes this long for your body to "get the memo" as it were.

It gets easier everyday. A little at a time. You did the right thing coming here to vent these feelings. Not only is it cathartic to write it out, it also helps to know that this is normal for us to go through.

I'm happy for you that you went through with it, are healing nicely, and have a whole new family here to help you through it. You will feel better.

Good luck, stay strong.
