Irrational fear

so let me start by saying I know this is crazy talk. But I have this fear that if I turn a certain way or twist that I will rip apart my small intestine from my pouch. My whole middle is pretty tight today, not so much pain anymore (surgery was on Mon), but that has to be impossible, right?

Bring in the crazy comments, I know.

I don't think it's crazy talk, in fact, I have been worried about that same thing. (I'm pre-op, 11 more days).

It's possible to damage your insides before you are fully healed. That's why surgeons have lifting restrictions for the first 6 to 8 weeks. But what would likely happen is opening a small leak, not ripping your small intestine from your pouch.

Every once in a while we see someone doing really foolhardy stuff. Eating a taco and fries two days after surgery. Going back to the gym to do powerlifting at the end of the first week.

If you get home after surgery with no leaks or serious complications, you'll be fine as long as you follow your instructions. Your insides are a lot tougher than you think.

People have really eaten tacos and fries two days after surgery??! This just blows my mind... more so than the crazies that would be at the gym powerlifting - however, that's pretty crazy too.

Every once in a while, someone stops at a drive-thru on the way home from the hospital. And they are angry at the surgeon, because they could eat a lot, yet felt no restriction.

It takes all kinds.

If you have the stomach for it (no pun intended), and the interest, you could look up RNY operation videos on Youtube.  You can see how they test your pouch and how they do the stitching.  You can see how durable your parts are after they've been operated on.  It might provide you with some relief.

It's not crazy talk. I think we all worried in the first few days. I'm 8 weeks post op and still "worry"! Follow your surgeons and NUTs instructions and you got this!

I was convinced I'd ripped something by sneezing once. To be fair, I was having nausea and I did feel discomfort, but come on. A sneeze?
