The Musings of a Pre-Op Newbie...

FWIW, I was a big time gum chewer before my surgery, but now I don't chew it anymore. I've had a few sticks, but actually haven't chewed any in over a year and I don't miss it at all. Now that I'm becoming more sensitive to sugar alcohols, I'm afraid to even try any.

I really don't even miss it.

Alcohol is tricky.  I have been really plastered twice since my surgery, both of those times I was over a year out-and it took way less booze to do it than before. I didn't like the feeling, whereas before my surgery...I could outdrink most people and I LOVED the feeling of being drunk. It was liquid courage AND stupidity-all in the same glass!

I enjoy drinking. I'll admit it... and it's something I had to think about because having a really nice glass (or two) or red wine while I cook dinner and de-fuse from work was pretty much a habit of mine...

I've been known to enjoy being drunk too...

I've already changed up my habit of wine and cooking (hello Mio!), and know that I'm going to have to be on my best behavior, especially that first year so I can lose as much as possible.

Maybe I'll be like you and not like that drunk feeling anymore when I do have a drink!

REALLY?  No gum?  I'm chewing gum right now, I've never heard of that.

The concern is over what could potentially happen if you accidentally swallow it. I have no idea if anyone has ever actually had a problem from swallowing gum, but I wouldn't recommend trying.

Wow! My start weight and age are the same as your- but I'm waiting for my surgery- won't be until late this year or early next year.

just imagine... I'm 9 months post op and weigh 169lbs.  I'm only 5'3", so I'm technically still considered obese for the next pound or so, but my life has changed so much in the last 9 months that I can't really even express it!

So exciting.  Congrats on taking that step and I hope your waiting time flies by for you!

Hi! I am new here too and I have my first appointment with the surgeon on May 16th. I'm too far for a visit I guess, but we are in Arkansas. :) Looking forward to hearing all about your surgery!

Why can't you have gum again?
