Thank you for sharing! I am in recovery too. Had a slip/relapse last summer after 10 years of sobriety. I am so grateful to be sober again.
Your life will be so much better and you will be happy and healthy- inside and out!
Did you know that the demographic that has the most growth in alcohol use/misuse/abuse/addiction is the White woman age 30-55?
That more women in that group are dying of liver disease and drug addiction? The rates for death of stroke and heart disease have lowered in that group, but death rates have increased.
I tell you this b/c you are not alone. The glamorization of alcohol and the alcocentric society we live in has really had the biggest effect on Women, and now young girls.
Way to go for you admitting to it and getting help and getting sober. You have courage! you are Brave! you are a sober warrior!
ALSO- for anyone struggling with alcohol post GBP- get help- It IS NOT transference of addiction. It is an actual physiological issue on how we now process alcohol- it can take someone who was a social drinker, and turn them into an alcoholic/heavy drinker.

Hi,
Thank you for sharing. I too have posted recently about the effects of alcohol on gastric Bypass patients. And I do follow the principles of AA and the 12 steps. Like you I believe I have always had an issue with alcohol. And no one picked up the drink and put it in my mouth. However, the more research I do on this subject of alcohol and gastric Bypass I find that it has such a higher percentage to take us from alcoholic to alcohol dependent.
Mad I read in your story your alcoholism got scary fast. That is the thing that bothers me for future patients and for myself why???? Maybe this will go nowhere and maybe some Dr will read it, you never know. My alcohol dependence destroyed my body. I had to have the Gastric Bypass basically redone from drinking. I have osteoporosis, and now my liver enzymes are out of whack (Dr said could be fatty liver) have to get more testing. I have not had a drink since 8/4/2013. But I lost everything else. Now I know alcohol is but a symptom of my disease. And it was but it took so much to keep things going and to be honest I'm curious about you. It actually hurt when I drank. If I was sober?? But I was never sober so no pain (bleeding ulcers).
