My biggest fear.
I have always had this problem, I had RNY and I have adjusted and you will too one of my helpful tips is that I cut everything up small then I chew chew chew, with it being a smaller bite if I don't chew it long enough it helps it was already small. Good luck I am sure you will do great.

I had the RNY 4 months ago. I have been off all my diabetes medications since right before my surgery. It is well worth chewing and emulsifying the food in my mouth to have my life back. I have gotten food stuck by eating too fast or taken too big of bites but I still would change nothing. I am 20 lbs away from my goal weight in 4 months and am the happiest I have been in years. I have NO regrets!
I just wanted to weigh in here and let you know that I have been in absolute agony over the same decision. I was certain I wanted the sleeve. I am having my surgery on Tuesday and my surgeon could see the struggle and sat down with me for over an hour.... I ultimately decided to go with the rny and just wanted to touch on your fear that you might feel stuck or your food may not go down and such.... He explained to me that although the sleeve is wonderful, it is considered a high pressure system and the rny is not... Picture a long thin balloon like you would use to make a balloon animal with... He said that's how the sleeve is, your food will either go down or it will come back up, he said now picture the rny as a soft round balloon , you can squeeze and poke at it and it won't pop as easily ... It is a low pressure system / hence why sleeves are not the better choice when someone suffers from reflux and gerd.
I hope the analogy helps.... It helped me but maybe I'm not explaining it right .this has been the toughest decision of my whole life , good luck with your choice !!

I had "just" a VSG. Let me tell you in the beginning you have to slow down and chew your food well...or it won't go down. And what won't go down must come back up. Even now at 2 1/2 year post op, if I accidentally don't chew well enough, it still gets stuck. I hope this last forever! It reminds you when you get lax. I know it probably won't last forever but glad I still react now.
