The OH is a great forum to keep real.
But be prepared to hear it all - the good (yeay!!! ) the bad (you messed up ) the smart and the stupid. It is the internet. Don't take things too personal. If you do something stupid (most of us did at the beginning - or even long term) be prepared to be called on that. A first few weeks post op - doing stupid things may hurt you or even kill you. We hate that. Really do. So we try to remind new people about that.
Sometimes being nice is not helpful. Read posts... Use search on OH... And when reading posts - consider the course - like how long the person is since WLS, how sucesful they were - are...
Plus - first few months - when we are rappidly losing weight - some of us got hormons... Like bad "pms" hormonal...
- Cold feet before WLS are very common
- Regrets post op are common
- Stalls - when you don't lose weight even though you following the plan - are common
- Surgeons are typically good cutters - but some of their nutritional / vitamins recommendation are not correct. We live the life post op, they are Not.
- Not everything that Will happen long term post op WLS is related to it
- Keep cool - if you get upset - walk away from the computer...
- Be happy...

In preparation for my liquid diet phase, my nutritionist told me I could have soup. So, in the weeks beforehand, I made a pot a week, then froze servings in quart size ziplocs in the freezer. I had enough frozen to have one for lunch and one for dinner each day for the 12 days prior to my clear liquids only days. I made I think a total of 7 different kinds. I didn't feel deprived during my pre-op liquid diet.
For my two pre-op liquid days, I froze homemade chicken broth. It didn't have much flavor but when I added a spoonful of chicken soup flavored protein powder to it, it tasted GREAT!
I bought tasting spoons and forks at World Market to get used to eating slower and with smaller bites and they feel normal to me now.

We will have to keep in touch. I had my pre-surgery appt. today, was set up with barriatric vitamins, calcium w/ vitamin D, and protein shakes. My final appt. prior to surgery is next Monday with the anesthesiologist. I'm am so excited and little scared for surgery on the 16th.
Are you on a liquid diet prior to surgery? I am, only protein shakes, water, broth and SF jello until surgery.
Buy plenty of Ziplock freezer bags...in fact, you might even buy stock in the company...LOL! You will be doing a lot of cooking but will not be able to eat it all so a freezer will come in real handy. I bought a 7 cubic ft chest freezer right after surgery. It's filled to the top...sure makes it easy for my healthy meal planning. Pick up some small 2oz measuring cups and a few 1/4 cup measuring spoon/cup combo. I have found my food processor has had a lot of use ever since my pre-op supervised weight loss classes, and still does!

Sugar free popsicles were the best for wanting to drink after eating. They gave me the moisture I needed until I could have water. Walk walk walk, I had so much pain in my shoulder from the glasses used in surgery. I highly suggest supportive underwear, I have a larger abdomen and walking was painful on my incisions, but supportive undies made a huge difference! Don't push yourself too much, listen to your body. Good luck!
Welcome! I am new to this as well. I am finding this site to be so helpful. My surgery date is 5/17/16 - One day after :). Definitely going to keep up with everyone on here :).
