Numbness
Has anyone experienced numbness in the legs and or finger tips? I am 5 months post surgery.
I have been experiencing this for about a month. Was just wondering if this is a side effect of something I may be lacking .
I had numbness in my fingertips, solved it by adding Vitamin B1 (thiamine) supplements.
But there are a number of supplements that can lead to numbness if lacking. Check your labs and go from there.

Low B-12 can cause it as well. Mine was on the lower end of normal and I was getting it. I never tested deficient. Had to up my B-12 so i was at the high end.

I have had this since about 3 months post op. My labs are all normal-high and my neurologist doesn't yet know what's causing it. We're still working on figuring it out. I'm currently on 900mg of neurontin/day and still no relief. it HAS TO be linked to my RNY or nutrition because of the timing, there's no way that was just coincidence, but we haven't found a cause yet, and my surgeon says he's never had a patient (that he knows of) develop it, so it's not a product of the surgery. We'll see. You are the 4th or so person I've seen post about it, though, so I think we'll find out in the coming years why it is linked to post op folks.
But yes, they are right, the B vitamins (B1, B12, B6, etc) are often the cause of this. check those first.
What were your levels, if I may ask.
I keep my B12 pretty high, at 1800 or above. My surgeon freaked out at the number, so I cut back and the next set of labs, I measured at 1100ish, but I felt tired all the time. I bumped it back up and just tell the surgeon I feel better with a higher level. Even if we test "normal", some of us may or may not need to tweak our dosages for optimal results in terms of feeling good. ( If that makes sense. ) YMMV, but that's what I needed to do in my case.

I feel old asking, but I have no idea what YMMV means... LOL
My B12 at last testing was 1600 something. It was around 1200 but has been on an upward trend and I haven't cut back on it. It's probably around 1800 now given the trend. I have to think if B12 were the problem it would be getting better as my B12 gets higher, and that's not happening. I'm not saying that's not the normal cause. Believe me, my neurologist assures me this doesn't make any sense. He says without diabetes and with higher than normal B12, this shouldn't be happening. He (and I) are convinced it's linked to nutrition SOMEHOW.... just trying to figure out how.
Just between you and me ( and everyone else, haha ), I had to google it a while back because I had no clue either.
I'm glad your B12 isn't the problem, but I do hope you can find the cause, I can't even imagine how frustrating it must be for you. Wishing you much good luck and an easy fix.

Yes, in my legs and lower back. It went away after I started taking sublingual b-12. I also never tested deficient. I am fairly certain that the b-12 test is actually pretty useless. It measures how much is in your blood, but we can only absorb a certain amount of b-12.
