Fibromyalgia
No fibromyalgia here but I do have severe rheumatoid arthritis and have for 30 plus years. I had partial knee replacements done at age 32 and a total replacement of the right knee in 2007. At some point I will need a total replacement on the left side too. I had daily knee and back pain even with a sedentary lifestyle prior to surgery and was ready to call the orthopedic doctor about a replacement. I have lost 150ish pounds and no longer have any pain even on my most active days. I am able to walk 5 miles a day for exercise with no issues and go above that amount frequently without problem. I am still on two meds plaque il and Humira for my RA to help prevent further joint damage. I was misdiagnosed for years because doctors couldn't look past my weight and blamed it for my pain. By the time I found an orthopedic doctor who would scope me I had no cartilage left in my knee joints and needed patella femoral replacement on both sides. Hopefully weight loss and being able to be more active will help you too!
Thanks I'm hoping so too. Especially considering I'm having increased joint pain too which causes me to not be as active as I would like.
I have my first Thanks appointment next Monday and the dr and trainer the following Monday. This dr appt will be to go over all my bloodwork and ecg results. Hoping for the all clear to move to the next phase!

I was diagnosed with fibromyalgia the first time at 14 years old. Since then, I have had 4 more diagnoses.
I have lost over 200 lbs. Many things have improved -- especially my energy levels and my activity.
However, I am sad to say that my muscle pain and tenderness has mostly remained; especially in my neck/shoulder/upper back.

Truthfully, nearly every co-morbidity I had, whi*****luded insulin-dependent type II diabetes, sleep apnea, high blood pressure, high lipids, fatty liver, etc -- have all gone away -- but in all honesty, my fibromyalgia is really not significantly improved. If I feel less pain, it's really in my joints since there's a lot less pressure on them, however, that pain was never indicative of my fibromyalgia. The fatigue is infinitely better -- but the muscles pain and tenderness is not improved. As far as flare-ups -- stress is still my biggest casual factor.
I had held high hopes that my fibromyalgia would be a memory or at least, significantly improved. I just said to my husband the other night that the fact that it isn't was my only disappointment post-WLS.
Of course, your situation may be entirely different and I hope that it is.

Do not have fiber but lupus. I had symptoms prior to surgery but discounted them due to weight. Surgery did cause it to flare but in the end got me properly diagnosed and on plaquenil. Recently had an ulcer and then needed foot surgery right after along with the stress of changing positions at work. Rheumatologist had reduced plaquenil by a fourth on my last visit based on weight but back up as I am going into a flare. Hope to head off a major one like I had before. On a plus side no longer on any diabetic meds eas on insulin and byetta, no more cpap and supplemental oxygen. At goal weight fluctuate between 120/131 and every morning I can go to my closet and not pray what I want to wear fits! So the surgery did cause some autoimmune response but I have no regrets. Don't know how it will impact your fibromyalgia but getting to a healthy weight can't be bad.
I have fibro too. I haven't noticed any difference since the surgery. The only thing this has proved is that a rude Dr I went to several years ago was wrong. He told me that you don't see skinny people with fibro and that I should lose weight. I was offended and didn't go back to him.

very similar experience.
And you make a great point, not every illness is caused by obesity.
One of the "thin privileges" we get when we lose weight is that our symptoms are taken seriously and everything isn't blamed on being fat. It makes me very sad for my still obese friends and family. We should all be treated with care and respect at medical appointments.
