Pretty cool NSV
I've been nursing a knee injury (IT band syndrome). I've been doing my PT stretches every day, hoping to get back to running. I think I only ran 3 days in April, though I do cardio and/or weights 5-7 times/week. Yesterday I ran my first 5K since October. No knee pain at all. SO thankful.
I knew I was pretty fast. There was a turnaround mid-way through the race and I could tell if I kept up my pace, I'd place in my age group for sure, maybe even win it. I finished in 24:15 (7:48 min mile) which was a new personal record.
Then the awards. They did it backwards. Awarding the top 3 in each age group starting with youngest. First women (girls) 0-9, then 9-14, etc. When they got to women 40-44, they awarded the top 3. My name wasn't called. Weird...ok...hmmm...oh yeah! I must have placed in the Masters Division (separate award for everyone over 40). Then they awarded the top 3 in the Masters Division. Nope, not me. I was wondering what was up, something got screwed up. Then I realized it...did I possibly finish in the overall category? Yes, I sure did. I was literally the second female to cross the finish line. I received a plaque and a medal "Second place overall female."
2 years ago, I was more that 100 lbs overweight, and smoked a pack of cigarettes a day. There is no way I should be this fast. Thank you, WLS, for showing me that anything really is possible.
Best of all: My daughter (14) who goes to all of my races ran as well. Usually, it is she standing at the finish line cheering me on, but yesterday, I got to see her cross the finish line
Happy Spring, y'all.
