DEXA Scan results

I got my Dexa Scan today and while I sat with the lady and discussed my results, I think I'm having a hard time figuring out exactly what I'm looking at.

This is what I show:

Tissue (%fat) 34.3 Centile 57 Total Mass (lbs) 175.8 Region (%fat) 32.9 Tissue 168.87 Fat 57.85 Lean (lbs) 111.02 BMC 6.94 Fat Free (lbs) 117.95

So, if I'm reading this right my muscle and bones weigh 117.95. My total body fat is 34.3% but the lady said that the actual fat % is 32.9%.

As for my bone density, my Young-Adult t-score was 2.1 which she indicated was very good. My age-matched z-score was 1.5 and my total BMD is 1.295

I'm trying to figure out what a realistic goal weight would be by this score. If i got to 140lbs then my body fat percentage would be around 15% (if I do the math as 117.95/140=.8425. is this realistic, or should I maybe up my goal to 150lbs where my body fat would be at around 20%. I like to be a little curvy.

Please, math people, if you see a flaw in my math or my reasoning, let me know. I just want to be realistic with my goals. Also, peeps, if anyone is interested in looking at the full scan I'd gladly redact any sensitive info and email it.

I also had a BIA done and it looks like I'm kinda dehydrated since my body is holding on to a lot of water.  Need to up my intake drastically.

It's not straight line math, unfortunately. For every pound you lose, some will be fat, some lean (bone, muscle, organ). The percentages vary, a lot. Lifting heavy weights slows down the percentage of lean body mass lost, for instance. The percentages of each when you are morbidly obese differ from the percentages lost when you get closer to goal. It's just estimating.

If it means that much to you, you'd likely have to redo the scan when you're closer to goal.

Well poop.  Thanks for the info.  I was hoping to up my goal weight as I could not for the life of me imagine being only 15% body fat (and I'd like to get to goal faster).  I'm keeping my goal weight as is and will be working hard with weights to minimize my muscle loss.  The DEXA scan is only $40 so i can have one a month if I need to, lol.  I will likely have another one in August right around my 1 year surgiversary to see where I stand.

Staying the course!

It's really, really hard for women to get to 15% body fat. It's just the nature of female bodies. So I wouldn't worry about that too much. Just keep doing what you've been doing.

150 may be very realistic goal...but if your body decides to get lower - go for it.

Yes basically your lean body mass is 118lbs, this includes, bones, organs, muscle and blood. I think 150 is a very reasonable goal. that would be 21% body fat. Remember below 25 is normal...so 21 is well below the threshold. Can you adjust as you get closer? Of course. Most women are not going to be below 20% body fat, or want to be.

As you can see from my ticker...I reset my goal after my dexascan, yet have gone below it. Having a realistic number to shoot for really helped though. I would have been banging my head against the wall at my original number....
