Counting Ounces of Liquid
Let me preface by saying; I hope this doesn't sound like a stupid question.
My Bariatric office said that I can count sugar free Popsicles and SF jello towards my liquid ounce count. Does anyone know how to figure out the exchange of these semi solids into liquid ounces.. I hope that makes sense. Also can broth be counted as a liquid? Thanks for the help.

just go by the ounces - consider it all fluid. There is not enough dry ingredients in either to worry about. Same with broth and even your protein shakes and coffee/tea(decaf). All is considered fluid.
The SF popcycles are the best for me. Esp at first - it took awhile to each one (2 oz) so I trained myself to drink more slowly. Now, almost 16 months post WLS - I still love the SF popcycles - esp the Tropicals.
I never really took to the jello postWLS and threw it all out 6 months after surgery. I had some, but I did not enjoy the jello like I did before surgery. I might suggest to get some - 1 or 2 packs, but wait until you know if you will like them.
Good luck,
28gms=1 oz.
Sharon
Thanks, Sharon! That is very helpful. Yea, I only got a couple boxes of the jello because I am not a big fan of jello and just got it as a last option. Thank you so much for all the great info.

Hi Charlie,
there are no dumb questions. I think its so great you are doing your "homework" and research before your surgery in May, good job!
So for the jello, are you talking about home made jello from the powder packet or the pre-made jello cups you get from the gorcery store. If homemade why not go to the dollar store and buy the one ounce "shot glass" cups and make your jello in those then you know how many ounces it is. If you are buying the pre-made jello form the store see how many ounces or grams it says on the packet. If it says grams then go to google and type in convert xx amount of grams to ounces. For the Popsicle it will say on the box under the ingredients how many grams it is, again google the conversion of grams to ounces.
And silly head of course broth is a liquid!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! A liquid is a liquid is a liquid regardless if its coffee, tea, broth, water, water with crystal light, soup, mil**** tea, lemonade, protein shakes well you get the point.
Good luck with your conversions!

Thank you so much for the tips , Daisy! I have the powder jello type. What a great dea to make the jello in 1 oz cups! I never thought of that, of course I never thought about broth being a fluid either, lol. I really do feel like a silly head.
I have been researching and reading information about RNY surgery and the lifestyle necessary to be successful since the day I went to the information seminar in December. I have a huge binder full of info from my the Bariatric program also. I think I am just second guessing what I learn the closer it gets to my surgery date. I just believe in being overly prepared and knowledge helps me to feel prepared. I know I can learn so much from all the vets here that have been there and done that so I have been reading posts on here for a long time. Once again, I appreciate the great advice.

The dietician told me when I first had surgery to count the SF popsicles as 2 oz.

That is correct. 1oz = 28 ounces. Each popcycle is 50 gms.
Thanks - I edited my post. 1 pop = 2 oz (not 4oz)
