My psychiatrist and I talked about Wellbutrin, too.  I experienced something similar on Zoloft, it eliminated my anxiety, which was HUGE for me, but I was also depressed and irritated.  He's hoping the Abilify will offset that. Wellbutrin is great from what I hear (it's what my surgeon recommends), but it can exacerbate anxiety. The sexual side effects of Zoloft are no joke, so I get you there.  My boyfriend is 10 years younger than me so he's hard to keep up with as it is.  Probably TMI, but there you go.  I will probably give the Wellbutrin a shot next, and as far as I know you can use it in conjunction with Abilify.

I used to get my psych meds from my general practitioner, but I switched to a psychiatrist, BEST decision I ever made. If your insurance covers it, I highly recommend it.

I was glad to see this post, I've been on Paxil for panic attacks since 1999. I've been wondering if anyone had to have their needs adjusted after surgery due to the malabsorption issues of RNY? I'm still pre-op, and I'm concerned about getting all whacky after surgery because my medication isn't being absorbed properly. Did anyone get switched to a liquid form of their psych meds? I'm in a really good place currently, after having my Paxil adjusted last April and I don't want to screw it all up.

I had the same concerns, definitely talk to your doctor about it before surgery.  If your Paxil or psych med is any kind of extended release formula (XR) (according to my psychiatrist), they have to be changed.  It may take some adjusting, I was on Celexa, but sometimes they need to raise our doses because we don't absorb things as well, and I was on a dose that couldn't be raised any higher, so that's why we switched to Zoloft.

I just cut my pills up, I used to crush them in the beginning, but I stopped after maybe my fourth week post op? Your doc may have completely different advice, but you don't want to wait until after surgery to find out, ESPECIALLY since you're in a good place with your current regiment.

It is most likely just normal weight loss pattern.  MOST of the current anti-depressants are weight neutral.  Even the ones that have the potential to cause weight gain, though, don't cause weight gain (or stop weight loss) magically.

What they CAN do, however, is increase your appetite.  If you remain faithful to your eating plan, though, your weight should not be affected.
