Question about weight loss
I have a weird question...
In my first week post RNY I dropped 10 lbs the following week another 8. Then i have been losing about 2 - 3 lbs a week - every 3rd or 4th week I have a week or two of a plateau, then lose 2 or 3 lbs. I just came off a recent plateau my RNY was 12/9 so into my 5th month post surgery, and the question is this... this week I have dropped 10 lbs since breaking the plateau and I have 2 more days of the week left, is this common?
I don't want to look a gift horse in the mouth. I am eating well, exercising - cardio 7 days a week - with strength building 3 - 4 times a week. I guess I am just concerned as I was not prepared for such a big loss so fast at this stage in the game.
The other option is to weigh much less frequently. You have to do what is best for your psyche.
I only weighed when I went to the doctors office for the first 3 months, then I got a scale and weighed weekly at home. One of the ladies in my support group still only weighs when she goes to the doctors - every 3 months. She always has a big loss, but I need more. I don;t know what she'll do after the first year, but I applaud her self-discipline.

I have come to realize there is "NO NORMAL". If you are meeting your daily protein and water goals, exercising and taking your vitamins and feeling good and losing tons of weight..............its your normal and its AWESOME!!!! Enjoy the months of big losing as they wont last forever. As you get closer to goal...things tend to slow down. Bodies just seem to do , what they want to do.
I m a firm believer of weighing every day..but to each their own.

Most people lose in this fashion, and call it a Stair Step Pattern. A week or two of no losses, a week or two of losing a bunch, and repeat, The length of the starts and stops varies, but that's the most common pattern. Very few people lose steadily each and every week. Certainly not every day. But if you write your losses down on a monthly basis, you'll usually see a more obvious pattern.
