One Mild Disappointment For Me
I'd been hearing long before surgery how this "may" fix fertility issues, that in mind I'd hoped to get pregnant (it would be our first between my husband and I-I am 46yrs old and have 3 kids of my own and 6 grands however none live near me). So, what a bummer that I never got my period again after surgery. Just left GYN office she said "yup if no period by August your officially in menopause" I truly sat and cried in my car for awhile, it really hurt emotionally. Normally I would turn to my best friend--food, nope I didn't. I have not even detoured once since surgery, although as a former food addict I must say has been extremely challenging at times. Its been two weeks since the GYN appt. and I figured ok, perhaps God has another plan for us, so I've accepted that fact and am moving on. I just wanted to share with all of you my experience.
Even people who have been thin their whole lives have difficulty getting pregnant at the age of 46 (I think odds are like 1%). If you really want to get pregnant, you could see a fertility specialist.

I am 100% with you! I too was told that by losing weight I would get pregnant. As soon as I hit my "18 mos" post op (as recommend by my centre to wait that long to try to get pregnant post surgery) hubby and I started trying. Nothing. I am currently seeing a Fertility specialist, hubby and I have had all the tests done and have been told we both are "good to go"... I am 44 years old and have waited for 16 years for a baby (hubby and I have been together 16 years and we wanted a family right away). I go back and see the Fertility doctor on April 18th, to discuss our "options and next steps".
Although I am still getting a period every month and not in menopause I can truly say that I know your hurt/anger and disappointment. I could fill lakes with the amount of tears I have shed over this... so I want send you a big "wrap my arms around you and hold you tight HUG" because I do know how you feel.
Extremely proud of you for not turning to food, that won't solve any of this and will just upset you more. I hope you will keep us posted on your journey.
Have you thought about a seeing a naturopath or a Fertility Centre? A lot can happen between now and August and you could start menstruating again.
Just wanted you know now I can totally emphasize with you.
Love and hugs,
Daisy

My periods have been perfect to the day since I was 13yrs old. They have been entirely messed up for the first 7mths post op. It has just been the last 2 mths that it seems like I am getting back to my old regular self, I am 45. I think the rapid weight loss truly messes with your hormone levels.
Its nice you have already been blessed with kids, who knows what the future has in store.?? You seem to have a great attitude and I'm glad to hear food is no longer your emotional crutch.

Unless you were hearing that from a fertility doctor, I wouldn't get my hopes up. Age, by itself, puts the odds against it. It's unfortunate, but it's reality. And as far as being a "former" food addict, I think you will find yourself still addicted. More research may be appropriate.
Best of luck to you.
Don't give up! If it's in God's plan for you, it will happen. I was told a few years ago that my hormones were all messed up and I'd only have the one child (he's 20 now), but low and behold, I went to a hormone specialist and here we are raising another little dude (he's 2yrs). Best thing in the world to have kids after 40, we've seen it all and done it all and can relax and really enjoy all the little things.
Keep trying!!! Hugs!
