What a Q T!!!!
Did the informational session yesterday and met one of the surgeons in the office. Wooohooo boy was he a QT!!!! He can see me anytime!!! lol Anyways, I knew most everything they said from doing all the research I've done. The one thing that I had to do that my insurance doesn't require is to be referred. BUT when I called my PCP I was told that they had already sent mine in a month ago. lol I had spoken to my PCP about WLS and had asked him to refer me but then dropped it once I found out my ins didn't require it. Hahaha My PCP office is on top of things! lol
I did find out during the session that I have to be nicotine free for THREE months before surgery! Yikeys! Oh well I have time since it's going to be a year before it happens. Also found out that they require me to be on a 2 week pre-op diet that is a protein shake for breakfast and lunch and a lean cuisine (or something like it) for dinner. Not too bad. I think I can handle that. But I carry a lot of my weight in my stomach and am worried that won't be enough to shrink my liver down??
Also gonna need to get a sleep study done and hoping that can happen before June 30th this year since my out-of-pocket has already been met for this year. Which means ins would pay 100% for the test. Gonna try to get as many of the tests done this year so I don't have to pay anything and ins will cover them 100%. My insurance year rolls over to next year on July 1. Think it could happen? My consult should be within the next 3 weeks.
Whats funny is my PCP referred me to the exact bariatric office that I had chosen on my own! lol Great minds think alike?? lol
Congrats!
Some advice from a former smoker... quit now. I know quitting is scary and HARD. don't put it off. They will be able to tell if you smoke, so better to quit early to account for any slip ups. I used the patch for a month to help break the habit of smoking and then went cold turkey from the patch. Don't let smoking hold you back.
FYI, don't get too set on the lean cuisine diet. My program used to use that one, but switched shortly before I started the program. Who knows what your surgeon will do in the next year. I was just glad that I didn't have to eat any lean cuisines and that I didn't buy any in advance.

All the surgeons at my centre are like drop dead gorgeous, young, slim, beautiful, arrgggghhhhh how horrible to go in as an obese lady and sit in front of someone so good looking that I got tongue tied. The surgeon I met on one of my appts was just a "meet the surgeon" and he told me that the day of my surgery it would actually be one of colleagues doing the surgery. That first surgeon was gorgeous, most beautiful blue eyes I have ever seen, so day of surgery, I am changed in my hospital gown and hospital booties waiting to speak to the surgeon before I get wheeled into the operating room and my husband is beside me, this young gorgeous man walks up to me, introduces himself and asks if I am ready. I was dumbfounded by his good looks! I think I just nodded and asked if I could go pee one more time! My husband laughed at me!!! ha ha ha
So weird your centre has you on two shakes and a actual meal for dinner. My centre was 4 shake a day for 14 days. Breakfast, lunch, dinner and evening snack was SHAKES. If you are worried about your liver, ditch the lean cuisine meal and do all shakes.
Good luck on your journey, its great you have lots of time to prepare, research and get ready!
