I miss my Coffee.......
Hello, I am 5 weeks post surgery and I think I am doing great. I do not have any cravings, but I really really really miss my 2 cups of coffee per day. And the decaf just does not do it for me.
When I read the other posts I am always surprised to read "Coffee" in the morning.
What coffee do you use and is it true that we can never ever have caffeine again?

I tried decaf after the surgery and it pretty much sucked. I think I went back to the hi-test stuff right around the 5 week mark. I drink whatever k-cups are the cheapest; this morning I had Wegmans brand French vanilla. I max out at 2 cups a day.
I'm going to be perfectly honest: I drink a ton of coffee. My surgeon doesn't like it but ultimately tells me just to keep an eye on things and cut back if I start to feel any indigestion or heartburn.
I don't want to encourage anyone to disregard their surgeon's advice but I think caffeine, carbonation, and straw usage are the most venial sins.
I was also told to avoid caffeine after surgery, but when I went in for my 6 month check-up I asked what the issue was for caffeine and they basically said "caffeine isn't good for anybody". So I drink an occasional high octane coffee, but mostly decaf. I was also worried about whether caffeine causes dehydration. Any vets know if this is true?
I drink an appalling amount of diet soda every day. No straw, less carbonation, full caffeine. It hasn't bothered me in any way. I'd probably be better off without it. But I could be better off in about one billion other ways too. I'm ok as-is.

I am probably the odd woman out here, but I was a religious twice-a-day, venti Starbucks English Breakfast Tea (I know it's not coffee, but still full of caffeine) drinker. My life was incomplete without it. Of course, I disregarding my surgeon's advice to wean myself off prior to surgery and went through the most agonizing caffeine withdrawal in the hospital you could ever imagine.
Fast forward to four weeks post-op when he said I could have it again, I was SO excited, it was what I missed most. I ran to Starbucks and got my tea, and it was if I had totally lost my taste for it - I was like, "meh", and ended up dumping most of it down the sink. I've noticed that with a lot of things, the stuff I thought I would crave more than anything, I don't even want anymore. So, maybe you'll be surprised when you actually get it and realize you don't want it anymore.
