Job Change/Insurance Change
Well most of you regulars know my story about the Center for Excellence where I have to have my surgery being booked up until June. Going right along with that story is: I hate my job. It's a good job, and is easy enough. Not a bad commute and I get paid well. However, it is not challenging in any way, shape or form and it is dealing with bureaucracy on a minute by minute basis, in all its minutia. I could rant all day, but that's not the purpose of this post.
I interviewed for 2 positions on Friday, both interviews went really well. The first job I think I would like to have, and if the money is right, I will definitely consider it. However, that means that I am putting off my surgery indefinitely. I don't know what my new insurance will be like, or if it will even cover bariatric surgery. Furthermore, it would take a year to save up enough time to ensure I had time off for it. That part is sucktastic.
I think I am going to call my surgeon's office this morning and tell them this long, sad story to see if they can expedite things. Even if I had an offer this week, I would have to give a month's notice, so it is conceivable that maybe I would have time to have surgery before starting another job....or is that a terrible idea? I am conflicted.
I know I need this surgery, but I also know that this job is making me miserable.

Oh geez, that's a really tough spot to be in! Can you find out what types of insurance plans your potential employee offers and try a Google search to see if you can find any related documentation? When I started my new job I was able to find out a little about the benefits my searching Hospital Name Employee Health Plan. Worth a shot?
If you are made an offer, you could also try to ask to review the benefits before making a decision? I know some are more accommodating with that than others.
You'll know that decision is right for you when the time comes! Hang in there!

I'm worth it!
If it were me, I'd prioritize the surgery. There will always be other jobs down the road. If there is a way to do both now, go for it.

UPDATE: my surgeon's office called me back and he has been able to get more OR time be putting pressure on the hospital administration perhaps? Anyway, I'm scheduled for May 2nd; first case.
That means I can have the surgery, even if I am offered the job!

In my head that still cutting it close-- If you offered a job today, but have surgery on 5/2, that would still be a long stretch before you could start at the new job. But i guess if the new job is willing to wait for you- you can't go wrong.
I hope it all works out!
