I suffered with terrible acid when I had my lapband. I am healed with the bypass!!! It's remarkable. I was coughing, spitting and in great pain for years...even on PPIs. Relief is more wonderful than I could have guessed. I sincerely hope you find your relief, soon!

  • Lowest post-op weight: 110 (2016)

Thank you!  I am currently on 2 PPIs and a Zantac a day and it doesn't control my symptoms.  I'm just having a hard time jumping straight into surgery without seeing if the non-surgical treatment will work.  I'm kind of hoping my endoscopy shows something since it will make the decision easier!  I'm so glad converting to bypass cured your problem and healed the damage!

I too had bad acid reflux before surgery and a constant cough. None at all since surgery and really no food issues except I do dump. That's only an  issue though if I eat things I shouldn't be eating anyway. It makes it much easier to say no to the sweets that kept me obese my whole life! I don't tolerate lactose well but if I use lactaid pills I can enjoy milk when I want it. I would just trust your doctor to do what needs to be done for your health. You will be just fine and do well either way!

Maybe the less invasive procedure will stop the acid for now. But it can alwas come back. It seems like it happens to more sleevers after a few years anyway. RNY should fix you for good.

If it was me, I would just skip to the sure fix, and be done for good.

I know you guys are all right.  I'm just being the biggest baby about this.  I'm going to need pointers from Melissa, since I'll have to go through the food progression again.  Ugh, 2 more weeks of all liquid.  On the bright side, if I end up converting,  I'll no longer have to refer to myself as the VSG interloper!!

Stacy you are always welcome on the RNY menu board, its not about RNY or VSG is about community and support and the fact that we all had a WLS. Please stay!

I 100% didn't even need to finish reading your whole post before I decided to say to you get the RNY!

I am 2.5 years post op, its only in the last 2-3 months that I am lactose intolerant.  Its not a big deal at all. I drink lactose free milk which I was drinking pre surgery as my husband is lactose intolerant and that's what we had in the house.  So no biggie. If I know I am going to have some cheese or yogurt I just take a lactaid pill, easy peasy.

I have had ZERO other issues or problems with my RNY. ZERO.  I have only had food stuck once totally my fault, I either ate to fast or took to big a bite and I think it was from a carrot, not even dense protein!!!  I know what foods work and what doesn't.   We will all walk you through it and hold your hand the whole way if you want. I am obviously pro RNY, but it really is easy to live with.

I truly worry about your health and what all that acid is doing to the rest of our body/organs.   I know this is easy for me to say its not my body or decision but you need to be well and not in pain. I fear it will just progress and get worse as the years go by, that's just bad news waiting to happen.

Good luck Stacy with whatever option you choose, I support you either way.

Morning AV, we missed you on Friday, we get worried when you go AWOL!!! Oh milk... you are singing my song girl, I have become extremely lactose intolerant post WLS, and I mean extremely.  Its horrible, so I know exactly what you mean. Glad you are better!

We too have a "snow event" here. My drive into work was crap this morning, thank you to the jerk off's who take the fast lane and go so slow and grip the steering wheel like death... just get off the road and take public transit, PLEASE!

Your dinner sounds good, love you are making hubby eat the ham until its gone, that's hilarious!!!!

Went shopping yesterday, got new runners and an outfit  & some shot blocks for my long runs (see below). I will be sporting this outfit last week of April as I try my best impression of being a "Bay Watch" babe and run along the beach (we are going to Florida last week of April).

Oh anyone got a horrible Sister in Law, well I do! My Mother in law is in the hospital (I adore my MIL).  My sister in law (who I don't like) lives with my Mother in law because she is widowed and she just conveniently "forgot" to tell my husband that MIL was in the hospital, SINCE SATURDAY MORNING!  Hubby get's a call yesterday afternoon as we are out shopping from his sister... 'Oh yea forgot to call and tell you Mom is in the hospital!" WTF lady, WTF!  So its serious but not critical.  MIL has Crohn's Disease, and was in severe extreme pain due to a blockage in her intestine somewhere. Long story short, she is still there, at a horrible, tiny, crappy, small, outdated community hospital, waiting for tests. I am so pissed at my SIL. I work at a large university hospital that is world renown for its care, and I have "connections" but did my SIL think about that, no!! So that was my afternoon/evening yesterday and going back to the hospital later today. I am a bit distracted & upset, sorry gang, but will keep you all posted, say some prayers for MIL please!

QOTD: I am not related to anyone famous, although I am pretty sure my Dad is part of the Polish Mafia, does that count? LOL LOL LOL

Time since surgery: 2 years and almost 5 months

B: coffee X 2 with splenda & lactose free milk, 10 shrimp + ****tail sauce

L: can of tuna over some chopped yellow pepper + balsamic dressing

S: laughing cow cheese and orange bell pepper strips

D: up in the air, will be at the hospital with MIL & hubby, will be home late, probably eat tuna again or more shrimp when I get home

S: probably nothing, will be at the hospital

Not posting totals as my menu is incomplete.

V/W: vits are done, calcium on alarms, lots of coffee, tea and more coffee at the hospital

E: none, hate not getting exercise

Love, love, love the new gear! I also LOVE shot bloks!  I use them on my runs. 1 blok every 2-2.5 miles. They give me a steady energy stream.  My surgeon recommended them. Seems he knows what he's talking about!
