How did you arrive at Your goal weight?
Some doctors will give you one. Mine asked me what I wanted it to be. At the time I weighed 267 so I picked 165 just as a random number, which seemed unattainable at the time. I later revised it to 145 because I was still losing easily. I continued to follow the plan on the advice of the vets to give me some bounce back room. I got as low as 118 and then leveled out at 120 to 123. I've been there about 3 years now and feel good at this weight. Your body will help you figure it out!
My doctor did the same thing. Asked me what I wanted to weigh after surgery.
i told him 165 also. I've since said 155. I posed this question because ultimately our goal should be to achieve a healthy bmi. To me, 135 pounds seems like a pipe dream at the moment, but I do think I'm going to work towards that to achieve a healthy bmi.
thank you for responding!
A healthy BMI is not a bad goal to start with, but BMI is not that good of a gauge. It does not account for body fat/muscle mass, etc. Here is a video that is the best explanation I have seen on the topic, although this guy was not my doctor.

My doctor said 150 pounds, did not make since to me. I said 130 pounds. moved that down to 120 pounds. I seem to stay between 120 -125 pounds. I would like to be closer to 118 i think but honestly do not know way. My BMI is around 17% and i run and excercise a lot. I love to work out, it is so easy with the weight gone.
losing was so much fun, maintenance is work and i am working at it every day.

In the beginning your goal weight is a random number...just pick one. Until you get closer....you don't really know.
I originally picked one at the upper region of my BMi. As I got closer to it, I began to realize it might not be realistic. So I went for body fat testing. It was pretty interesting. You can read about it on my blog page.
So I readjusted my goal 19lbs higher after that. I passed that goal and am trying to find out where my happy place is.

At first I didn't set a goal. Surgeon's goal was 65% of EBW. I told the nutritionist my goal was no insulins and a size 14. She said you need a goal fine I want to be 129.9 pounds, just so I can say I'm in the 120s. She scoffed at that asked when the last time I weighed that. Well never I replied. Told me to be realustic. Alas she was right I wasn't being realistic I got down to 119. I now hover btwn 124 to 128 with 13% body fat.
