Can I really only expect to lose 60-80% of excess weight

Keep in mind that I am small (short and had kept of the majority of weight from the band)--my start weight for the revision was 164. I got to 122 in 7 months, which is a "normal" BMI for me. I have kept losing and right now I am 118, with an end goal of 114. The weight loss seemed slower than my peers on this board who seemed to be losing 40lbs a month (they weren't, it just felt that way). But due to the revision surgery, and a lower starting BMI, my surgeon's office told me to expect it to take a year to get where I got in 7 months :)

I am 9 months post op and have already lost 92%and still the scale is moving at a rate of about 2 pounds per week. I don't exercise at all (time doesn't permit) but my diet is pretty much my whole life. I stay around 75 grams of protein daily and less than 30 carbs, NO simple carbs, period.
Good luck to you!
I have no doubt you'll get there. You've got this.

I was 52 when I had my surgery in August of 2012. I had been obese most of my life, even as a child. My surgeon did not think I would get to a normal bmi. My highest weight was 272 at 5 feet 6.5 inches. By less than 10 months I got down to 118 and then my body settled between 120 and 123. I have been there ever since. My bmi is 19.6. I am very much a rule follower and walk every day and still weigh, measure and track my food everyday. I weigh every morning too. I feel so good now I do not EVERY want to go back to where I was! My surgery was the best decision I ever made!
I am glad Laura and Kat responded to this. There are a few that always come to mind when people ask this question and they are inspirations. I'm not even at 2 years post op yet, but I too am in the 100% EWL and hope to stay there :-)

The figure is an average of everyone who has wls, so the noncompliant patients bring it down. It is really up to you how much you lose. If you want to be as successful as possible, listen to the vets around here who have lost 100% of their excess weight, and do what they do. Realize this means that you will probably have to eat more restrictively than what you surgeon or nut tells you.

I have lost 100% of my excess weight, I was 2 days before my 56th birthday when I had the surgery....and at my first surgiversary had lost 165lbs.
They get those numbers from the statistics 5 years out where people have had some regain. If you keep off 60-80 you are considered a success. And face it that is better than where people started.
You have to stay vigilant. I heard someone say on here one time "Don't fall into the trap of 'normal' "... I took that to heart.
