Serious help to make vacation decision!!!
I LOVE Disney World! I want to go in June when I have 16 days scheduled off work. I wont lie, I love their food too and its way cheaper to add the dining plan to our stay package rather than purchase seperatly throughout the week. I will be only 3.5 months out from surgery... Will I be able to eat meat at that point? Vegetables? A bite of pasta if I want to try something new?? The exercise that week will be off the charts from walking almost 6 miles a day but I'm not sure what our pouches can handle at that stage. Should I wait until next year to book this magical trip or will I be able to enjoy like a normal person?
Do it. I was 3.5 months right around Thanksgiving last year and was able to eat meat and veg at that time. I would definitely say you should look at their available menus if you can to have a bit of a plan, but there is no reason you shouldn't be able to get a protein forward meal there.
I think the hardest part about eating with "normal" people now is that I eat so much less that I'm usually done when people are going back for more so I have a lot of spare time on my hands. Last Thanksgiving I was able to feed my nephew a bottle at the dinner table while everyone else stuffed their faces. I also always bring my knitting with me at family functions so I have something to do with my hands while everyone else is eating.
Your replies nearly made me cry! My boyfriend and 2 sons (6 & 11) are big foodies. We love to cook together and try new things. This first vacation for the summer is just the bf and I. We're taking the kids on a cruise later in the year. They have been to disney a couple of times before. I absolutly love it and he has never been, so I thought what a great way to have fun with my best friend right!?! I want him to be able to enjoy the fantastic dining and different foods available there and I didnt want to hold him back if I was going to be puking and spending time in the bathroom. I fully plan on sticking with proteins firsts but I know I'd love to try a bite of a few things he saw on the menus online and mentioned getting. Thanks again for the words of encouragement!
The food would not have been a problem for me but at 3.5 months out I was still utterly and completely exhausted. There was no way I could have walked around Disney even for one day. Start building up your walking stamina now.

Does your post-op plan say you can eat meat and vegetables at 3.5 months? Mine did with pasta on the "rethink your food choice" list for life. Possible reasons for waiting until next year could be: you'll be at your thinnest, fully recovered, digestive system kinks figured out, food tolerances down pat, and stronger stamina. Something to think about.

We went on a cruise when I was 6 mos after surgery. It was very hard to stay completely on plan when there were so many options around, in a celebratory environment. All things considered, I did quite well staying on plan, but I do look back on that trip as being a time when I allowed more "gray area" choices. I have felt that I did not fully return to the most careful eating afterward, and this led perhaps to earlier adoption of choices that create cravings and are more challenging. Definitely that was when I went out of ketosis, and this slowed my progress. We must live our lives, and your trip sounds lovely, but this first year is the quick loss time, so be careful.
This is a mixed bag... yes you should enjoy and have fun...I had 3 weddings, a 60 birthday party, and a BBQ for a 100 people(In my backyard) all within my first 6 weeks after surgery. That being said...they were each one day events. I didn't eat at all at the first wedding, ate 1/2 a piece of fish at the second, and was able to eat a few more bites of things at the last. You are going to be spending a lot of money on food you can't eat.
You are thinking of it as more economical- but that would be for 2 normal eaters. At 3.5 months you are usually only eating 550-750 calories a day.You also quantity wise will only be eating 1/2c to 3/4c of food at any one time. Maybe even less. You can't eat more because you think your exercise will 'be off the charts'... and that amount of calories is not a lot of eating. I would bring some kind of protein powder and shaker bottle too to try and keep your protein up.
AT 3.5 months in theory I could eat anything...but your pouch is small..so if you are eating protein first. maybe there is room for a few bites of veggies. maybe.
I am just afraid for you going...this is your honeymoon period, at 3.5 months you haven't figured it all out with the food, and what agrees with you and doesn't.... your comments about eating pasta.... taking a bite of something special and different...it happens, but are you planning it? Will this derail you?
Only you know you.... I am posing 'food for thought'.... I would just buy him the meal plan... and then buy an appetizer or soup or eat nothing and just have your shake back in the room. I don't know if that is even possible...don't know how the restaurants and meal plans are set up.
Good Luck! Not an easy decision...

I was in Aruba 5 weeks post surgery. It was a challenge but luckily I found sugar free pops my first day there. I ate lots of broths, RTD protein shakes, flaky fish, etc. I most worried about getting the fluids in. I drank tons of hot tea, water, and Crystal Light. At 3.5 months I had no food restrictions and would have been fine going to Disney. The one thing I'd worry about is dehydration though so make sure you drink a ton of water.
