Psych Evaluation

I am early on in the process of being approved for RNY. I am scheduled for my psych evaluation in May. The said it should take approx 2 hours. What kinds of questions are they going to ask me? What should I expect?? I am excited and nervous all at the same time.
Absolutly no reason to be nervous! They'll ask all the questions your docs and nurses have been asking all along. Why do you want weightloss surgery? What makes you feel it is right for you? Such simple questions. The doc who gave me mine (which is a conversation, not a test!) said if I were to say I was doing it to look good at my high school reunion, that would have been frowned upon. Of course, she told me this after she said she felt i was a good candidate for surgery. Lol So no worries!
There are lots of ways they do these tests. There's no way to prepare. Just be open and honest.

(This Was My Experience)/ Also a Friend of Mines Experience with a Different Psych/.....When you check in be prepared to be handed a "stack of paperwork", which will include a true and false Test that's very long. You will turn in the paperwork, your Psych will review it all before seeing you that day, they enter the answers in the computer. The Test will ask questions about , if your depressed. If you have ever considered suicide. And page after page they will reword the same questions, I recommend you be at the Appointment 45 minutes early to get started if you don't you'll be there all day. The Psych will be looking to see if you have depression, if you do bad enough they'll make you come back for many months of Psych Appointments before the Psych will Pass you for the Surgery, ... When my appt. Was over that day, the Psych said well your definitely not depressed , Your Passed for Surgery. I also found out they were watching me to see how I reacted when I checked in and they handed me the stack of paperwork, so be relaxed and very happy with them. I only wish someone had told me what Happens so I was prepared.

Every center is slightly different. I don't have a paper test but rather a conversatile with the psychologist. She asked things like why I wanted surgery, what my expectations were, what support system I had in place, what my eating habits were like, and whether I was depressed. I had been hospitalized for depression after the birth of my second son so was a bit worried about that. I answered her questions honestly and did just fine.
Don't sweat it at all, (unless you're doing the surgery for all the wrong reasons). My doc just talked to me for an hour, and asked very basic questions about me, my past, my weight loss journey, etc. It was such a great experience I started seeing him in place of my actual psychologist. You'll be fine!
My psych eval took about 3 hours and consisted of an interview and an online 500 question true/false test. A few weeks later I got the results which weren't good--I got diagnosed with a rare eating disorder (BED) which derailed my surgery until I get cured. I have yet to find anyone near me that can treat that or accepts my insurance & until I do, my surgery is on hold. Knowing what I know now, I'd recommend that anyone seeking bariatric surgery get the psych eval & diet program (mine was 6 months) completed first.
