I've also been on the patch for almost 9 months. I do the multi every day, and the B12 patch once a week. I also do a sublingual once a week. I have trouble sleeping if I use the B12 patch regularly. I also take iron.
I've had labs drawn about every 2 months for various reasons, most recently last week. I have kept a spreadsheet of everything so I can watch trends. I haven't seen the details of last week's labs to input therm, I'm picking them up today, but they called and said everything is normal.
I developed neuropathy about 2 months post op which is usually due to low b12 but my b12 has never been low and last time we checked it was a little higher than the normal range. My neurologist is stumped as to what the cause of it is, but he's still testing and trying to figure it out.
Anyway, my surgeon said the same thing as yours, pretty much. He hadn't heard of the patches and had no clue if they're effective, but told me to go ahead and give it a whirl. If my labs start getting whacky we can always switch. So far he's told me to continue.
I'm sorry to hear about all of your obstacles and challenges lately. Hang in there!
Glad everything is going so well. I started my patch a couple of months ago, and it's encouraging to see so many people having success. I like the patch so much better than doing the pills.
