Pureed stage -how much am I supposed to be eating at each meal?
Hi there,
I'm now in the pureed stage. It says in our manual that we should be eating 1/4 cup of food at each meal.a 1/4 cup is equal to 2 Oz. Is this correct?
Additionally, ate we supposed to just have protein or do I divide it up with 1 oz of protein, 1 oz veggie /fruit?
I just realized I may have been eating too much sometimes a each meal I was having 3 oz all together. I need to cut back if it's just 2 Oz.
Please help.
Thanks,
Jen
You are lucky. they have you going to the pureed stage 2 weeks out. I didn't get there til 4 weeks out.
I guess that's why a meal for me was
1 tbsp lean meat (pureed with broth) or tuna
1 tbsp Vegetables.
1 tbsp starch or fruit
If you can have just 2oz concentrate on the protein more than the starches and veggies.
Yes, 1/4 cup is 2 oz. Just eat protein until you are consistently meeting your protein goal each day. I didn't look at a fruit for veggie for months because I never had room for them. Right now your focus is to first drink enough water and second eat enough protein. Don't worry about other foods until you master these. Eventually, I started eating low protein foods for my evening snack on the days that I met my protein goal at dinner, which was not every day.

Yes 1/4cup or 2oz.... Just focus on proteins... Cottage cheese and yogurt are protein even though they do have some carb. No need for veggies now... 2 oz is very little and getting your 60g minimum protein is more important than veggies right now. Veggies will come.

Thanks everyone for your help and advice! You have helped me tremendously and staired me down the right path. I will focus on drinking my water and protein first. But how much is the maximum calories I should be having each day? I asked surgeon and he didn't give me an answer, he just said he's happy even if I loose one pound per day as I don't have too much to the lose. My goal is 80-100 pounds
Thanks,
Jen
I dont know what your Nutritionist said for you but when I went in to the doctor and I admitted I wasn't getting all the calories that was recommended at my stage he said "dont worry about the calories at this point. Your focus still is hydration and protein. I guess they know with our new pouches we aren't gonna go out and put 2000+ calories in them. Eating smarter and as small as you will eat its not going to make a huge difference.
That being said Dont get out of the habit of tracking everything that goes through your mouth. I use myfitnesspal.com. there are many online calorie and exercise tracking programs available for us. Or you can write it in a food journal. This just puts us in practice for when we are off shakes and eating further down the road.
Something for you to think about for the future: I remember Grim saying we tend to fool ourselves with portion size the farther out we are from surgery. It's true for me. To stay in-check, I use four-ounce covered containers and eat off a six-inch plate with no plans on changing. My instruction from the NUT was to never eat more than one cup of food at a meal lifetime. Lettuce salads are one of my exceptions.
