B-12 injection
OK, so I am 6 yeas out and always did my own B12 injection (Prescribed by my PCP) sadly my PCP passed away very suddenly. I have a NEW PCP and he is very nervous about me injecting my 1000 mg B12 1x monthly. He said he did NOT want me to do any B12 and would give me a shot next month...I'd rather give my OWN injections as I've done t for years. I admit that I am nervous going 1+ month without any B12 injections (He said not to take ANY until he did a blood test next month) He KNOWS I've had an RNY Gastric Bypass back in 2010 and severe liver/seizure disorder the last 2 years. Does anyone have Bariatric information on taking B12 via ABMS???? I want to show him and give him a doctors opinion. Thanks.
Warmly,
Jackie
i have taken the nasal sprays - one per week - for 15 months. easy and my labs have been good. Rx Nascobal.
new dr does not know you - he/she has to be conservative until they get to know you - it may be a sign that the dr is good not bad.

Can you not do the sublingual? Those have worked great for me.

Highest weight was 475. RNY on 08/21/12. Current weight: 198.

If you are only doing monthly, you absolutely could go to sublinguals.
I have to do 2 x 1000mg per WEEK. There was a fuss on here a few years ago that everyone should do shots, but that's just ridiculous. Get the sublinguals and put an end to the worry!

I was also doing 2 x 1,000 per week, and my numbers were off the high end of the chart. I cut back to 1 x 1,000, and I'm settled at the upper end of normal range.

I've had pernicious anaemia for over 15 years, before my RNY, and have some neurological nerve damage from it not being diagnosed. Two shots per week is a lot, and I still struggle to get values over 600.
Mine is a genetic auto immune disease, rather than as a result of WLS. I also have vitiligo, another auto immune that is connected to true pernicious anaemia, not caused by surgery. Here's the gen

Wow, lots of different replies! I will do what the doc wants for now, and understand what you are saying about a new doctor being thorough (He IS doing that! Gotta hand it to him)
He does NOT want me at this point to have ANY b12 sublingual, nasal or otherwise until he runs a blood test on May 18th. Maybe he wants to see what my "naked" base line is? I have no clue what he is doing.
To the cool "Hag" I've known for so long, I am sorry you are going through the pernicious anemia. That has so got so suck ((((hugs)))
Thanks for all the rest of the replies. I've met some some cool friends here on OH and it is always soothing to know that either
1) Someone else has went through it or
2) At least knows about what we go through as long termers via WLS (Still don't regret it)
