Vacation question
Many report traveling soon after but I would not nor could have. The first few weeks, I took long naps, had intestinal issues like gas, needed rest, and put all my efforts into healing. Plans vary but at five weeks, I liked cottage cheese, yogurt, pre-bought protein drinks and bars, chili, jello, pudding, broths, and sugar-free popsicles.
I had a business trip 2.5 or 3 weeks after my RNY - I had no issues at all. I was on liquids for two weeks after surgery but was cleared for soft foods so I had tuna and chicken salad and scrambled eggs. Protein shakes are easy to take with you. Since it was a conference, I did scrambled eggs at the hotel for breakfast, tuna sandwich for lunch (just eat a little tuna NO BREAD), and a protein shake for dinner. Your plan may be different, so ask your doc what he/she thinks!
The next time you go in, ask what your surgeon's post-op guidlines are. 5 weeks post op - you maybe getting back your strength, or you may still feel like sh#@. I did well traveling b/c I gad a car and most rooms had a mini fridge and microwave. So I could go to a store and get what i needed and supp with prot shakes.
At this point, I would try to keep some rest & relaxation time in your vacation rather than plan activities for 24/7.

It sounds like you have reasonable expectations and will have a great trip. You may want to think if you will have any people problems - food pushers, food police, etc. There are resources here for ideas to deal with them.

You'll likely want to bring protein powder with you just in case so I just thought I would share that I once had a bit of a run-in with TSA because I was leaving the country with lots of protein powder in little ziplock bags. Now, I was going to Costa Rica, not our neighbor Canada, I was flying while you are probably driving, and I had two months worth of the stuff because I was studying abroad in rural areas and I needed to know I'd have reliable food -- so my situation was likely very different from yours. That being said, I suggest leaving the protein in it's original container if you are going to go through customs. :)
