Five years out!!
So I am celebrating being 5 years out as of 2 days ago!!
Am I happy? Dang gone right I am.
Has my life changed? Yep!! 100% for the better. I am sooooooo much healthier now.
Have I kept off all the weight? About 95% of it. Yes.
Just in the last year I have gained back some weight not a tremendous amount, but enough to make me snap back to attention here.
Started at 297 stabilized at around 140. My lowest being 135. Now at 164. Not happy with the 164, but all in all it could be a helluva a lot worse than that. Currently trying to get that number back down. YES, it is a constant struggle. At least for me anyway, but one that I will never give up on!!!
Congrats! I would say you have been quite successful, and it's great that you are working to lose the regain. I am only 2.3 years out but I so wish I could impress upon the folks in the honeymoon stage how important it is to take advantage of those first 18 months and lose lose lose, since like you, I find maintenance to be a constant struggle! I like seeing successful people, so cheers to you for kicking butt!
Better at seven months than 5 years out and you never met your goal :) I was HARDCORE for that first year - no alcohol, no chips, no candy...my one exception was tasting my brother's wedding cake 10 months post-op. Losing 100 lbs in 4 months and then almost 200 in less than a year was the easy part...keeping it off has proven to be more difficult. But of course it's a personal preference and how many carbs and calories people eat depends on their plan/their willpower/their life...I don't judge, I can just say that over 2 years out, hindsight is 20/20 and those first 18 months are so easy compared to this maintenance bs lol.

Thank you so much for taking a few minutes to give us an update! I love hearing from people who are a few years out. Congratulations on your success, and best wishes for tackling the regain.
Glad to see your update. I know you can kick that regain to the curb. Stick to protein rich menus and make sure to drink your fluids too. I worry about regain too and measure and track every bite I eat and weigh every morning. I don't want the numbers creeping up without me knowing. Welcome back and don't be a stranger!
I am 6 years out. I lost nearly all of my weight (300 lbs down to 120) within a year. Then I had medical problems (Gallbladder problems, seixure disorder, etc) and lost more weight. So I am around 118-122 depending on the day. I just go by how my cloths fit. I never use my scale. My Doctors use their scale.
It's more of a struggle to KEEP weight on,, and to be able to do a lot of stuff I could do before. Now having Grand Mal seizures and not being able to drive or ride horses or motorcycles is no fun. Kinda depressing. Eyesight is going as is my memory. But my weight is off.
(Not wanting to be cheeky/snarky...But WEIGHT is not the most important thing. Being healthy is However I know that at 5'3 being 190+ would be obese for me...) Just saying. If I was 6'2 well that might be different.
Warmly,
Jackie
I am sorry that all these things have happened to you. That would be hard on anyone. I myself have had some health issues as well. That being said, my weight was making me very very sick, so the weight, at least in my case, was very important to come off.
Being healthy is the most important thing. Getting the weight off for some of us plays a very important roll in our health.
I hope that your health has at least some chance of improving.
