FDA Tramadol and Black Box warning??

I would say not, as there are many synthetic opioids that are highly addictive? I was always taught that opiates were derived from opium and opioids were a synthetic form. Now, it seems opioid is used to describe all narcotic pain relief?
I don't think you're being pedantic. When I had it prescribed to me in 2010 for short term use, it wasn't even a controlled substance!! Now I see that the law here (Ohio) has changed, and as of 2014 it is a schedule IV narcotic.
Who knew!?
I rarely have used narcotic pain relief -- really only after major surgery. So, I am out of the loop.

From Wiki!!
Tramadol (marketed as Ultram, and as generics) is an opioid pain medication used to treat moderate to moderately severe pain.[
It's a synthetic opioid. And I still haven't seen one yes or no (with a link) that tells me if it's on the list or not...

I've pulled the actual opioid pain medication black box warning that lists which drugs are included. Tramadol/Ultram is NOT listed.

That appears to be a older list(2011)....does that make a difference?
I also take Tramadol and in New York State it is a controlled substance and I need to pick the prescription up in person at my doctor's office as they can't fax it to the pharmacy.

I don't know if Tramadol (Ultram) is black box, however...Because I have Seizure disorders and liver problems NO doctor will prescribe it to me (OR anything with tylenol or NSAIDS) So I get Oxycodone (NO tylenol) and also Fentanyl patch (You can start with 25 mcg patch) or even morphine....I broke both shoulders, my RT knee and have chronic back pain and autoimmune disease (Dermatomyositis) so there IS some pain releif out there...Ypu just gotta be careful with it.....There is also Nucynta. If you DON'T want opioids (Synthetic or otherwise) you can try Biofreeze, Aspercream, etc. I also do massage therapy weekly...Helps a lot. Also either COLD patches or warm heating pads can help.
Good luck, from someone else who suffers a lot of pain.
Warmly,
Jackie
