"Dad, you don't look so good".

That is what my daughter said to me, in mid chew, last night at dinner. She was so freakin' right about that. They were having spaghetti/sauce, salad and bread. I was have 3 oz. of chk. breast from the previous night and 2 tbls of green salad.
I have been very good about 30 chews per bite rule from my surgeon. Last night was so different. I didn't follow any of my rules of chewing. Coming off of a vicious life or death ping-pong tourney with the kids(I lost). I was pretty hungry when I sat down. It was half gone in 2 bites, that's when the first pain hit.
It was subtle at first, gas I thought. Then it was like a bomb went off in my chest. The pain started sharp and deep, then dull, then sharp. I went and laid down, mid dinner (first time ever) and the pain would not stop. I talk to the porcelain diety, and thought it was over when the first pain stopped.
WRONG I WAS! STUPID AM I? YES! It only got worse from there. I can hear the vets smirking wisely. It was terrible. Lasted until 2 am. Puking, then more chest-chicken orgy etc...All I could do was either lay in pain, or run to upchuck. It was pretty nice way to kill some time.
So anyway, a question. Does it matter that I cook all of my meals in a cast iron skillet, will it cancel out the calcium pills I take at 5 hour intervals? And, does anyone, or rather, can anyone tell me how it is possible to get in the requisite amount of daily calcium in? That should be something for a challenge week by the way. Who can take ALL of every single vitamin and supplement that they should be. It is BY FAR my biggest challenge so far. Thanks everyone.
You poor thing!!! once it came out, you still kept puking??
i used to puke on the band occasionally , once it came up it was over but your stomach would swell and you could only drink water - warm water- the next day.
how do you feel today?

Uuggghh, I hate getting food stuck. I have had it happen a few times and it is so horrible. It always clears in an hour or so, and I've only ever thrown up one time with stuck food and I felt good immediately afterwards.
Glad you're feeling better today. I have no idea about the cast iron pan, but I am interested to hear what others thing.

Thank you D,
It really was dumb. I forgot the chew rule. Last week, I accidentally took a drink of water about 5 minutes after lunch for the first time since surgery. Me and my wife both immediately knew. We looked at each other with that "uh oh" look.
I read about iron from Dx, very helpful. Well, everything he ever wrote is amazing! But, I was curious if anyone had done it here.
calcium and iron compete for absorption. Calcium is bigger and wins every time. The bully...So the iron from the cast iron if you also take calcium - calcium gets absorbed, iron may end up in your guts. constipating you.
calcium can be taken every hours... typically we need 1500- 2000 mg from all sources.. no more than 500 mg at a time..

Wow! That sounds so painful! I use cast iron and never realized that it transferred iron into your food.

Yikes on on the chicken getting stuck. I've been super lucky ( knock on wood ) that I've never gotten food stuck.
I use Bariatric Advantage 500 mg calcium chews, they're caramel flavored, but they have chocolate, chocolate peanut butter and some fruit flavors. They're kind of pricy, but they sure help me get my calcium in. The pills make me gag; they're just too big. I've also used a liquid calcium I bought at Vitamin Shoppe. ( it's a brand called Solgar, and it's great quality..all calcium citrate with D3 added ). I take my calcium every two-three hours during the middle of the day. I take calcium first thing. I take my multi, D3, and B12 in the morning, a couple of hours after I've had coffee. Then calcium, calcium, calcium...evening I take my other multi, and at bedtime I take my iron and Vit C. ( My multi doesn't have iron ).
I've made a point to never slack off of my supplements. I've seen too many posts on here from people who have foregone their vites and supplements. Deficiencies can really wreak havoc on your body. I'm used to taking them, it's just a part of my day. It did take me a while to settle on brands and dosages ( according to my labs ), but I've got it down now.
