If you are doing your research, you are going to read scary stuff. But, the key is to know what the percentage of probability is. The higher the BMI of a patient, the higher the probability they can have complications. Take those things into consideration when reading the "scary stuff"
I gladly accepted the risk of complications (I had a BMI of 56) and I was fortunate to not have any complications. I had discovered this site prior to my surgery and had read every bit of information that I could about what to expect and I was able to network with a lot of other people who gave me advice. It was scary, but I would make the same decision again, in a heartbeat.

Complication statistics are very low and in line with other surgeries (c-sections, appendix removal, gallbladder) Your medical team will be running a bunch of tests that should reduce risks. I am assuming you are having some health issues now due to obesity. Those are scary and potential could kill too.
Entering my 10th year and I would do it again in a heartbeat... best decision I ever made. 3565 days of awesome. Keep this in mind... you are always going to see more "issues" on a message board... that's where people can share them. Most people post-op are out loving life.
Best wishes to you on your decision and health! ~Shelly
