There a lot of positive people here. I know this is one of my sole sources of support. I have a great family. They have know idea what it is like to be obese.

I am glad I found this site. I consider the people here my friends.

If you are doing your research, you are going to read scary stuff.  But, the key is to know what the percentage of probability is.   The higher the BMI of a patient, the higher the probability they can have complications.    Take those things into consideration when reading the "scary stuff"

I gladly accepted the risk of complications (I had a BMI of 56) and I was fortunate to not have any complications.  I had discovered this site prior to my surgery and had read every bit of information that I could about what to expect and I was able to network with a lot of other people who gave me advice.  It was scary, but I would make the same decision again, in a heartbeat.

I had the best surgeon on the planet, make sure you have the best most experienced surgeon available to you. I knew I would be fine in his care.  I asked a few questions, he was confident there would be no problems.

I was aware of complications but  I also know my life MO sucked. It's really worth it. My quality of life at 66 is awesome. 14 years ago I used a walker , the cart at stores , handicapped parking. Now I ride my bike 5 miles a day and love life

Complication statistics are very low and in line with other surgeries (c-sections, appendix removal, gallbladder) Your medical team will be running a bunch of tests that should reduce risks. I am assuming you are having some health issues now due to obesity. Those are scary and potential could kill too.

Entering my 10th year and I would do it again in a heartbeat... best decision I ever made. 3565 days of awesome. Keep this in mind... you are always going to see more "issues" on a message board... that's where people can share them. Most people post-op are out loving life.

Best wishes to you on your decision and health! ~Shelly

Thanks for the words of encouragement! The post I was was referring to was just so negative. Unlike most of what is posted on here. I really am glad to have found this site, I have learned so much being on here.

I am excited (and nervous) to have my surgery in May!
