I have been on here for a couple of months reading and trying to absorb as much as I can. My RNY is May 9. I have learned so much from reading your post on here about what can happen and what to expect. I know there is always a chance for complications and I need to accept that.

But WOW, today I have read some scary stuff!!

Regain keeps me up at night and causes me to run half marathons and train for a full marathon.

I was reading the post from the lady this morning who said she had been in (or in and out of) the hospital for 2 years after her surgery. Sorry, I dont remember her name and now I cant find the post. Like I said, I have tried to educate myself as much as I can and I know the risk.

Maybe the message isn't what spooked me, but the way it was delivered.

Most of us aren't convinced that was real. That poster created an account only to post that, which is fishy. At the very least, there was much more going on than just WLS.

Serious complications are extremely rare. But the complications from years of morbid obesity are 100 percent real, and they are debilitating, crippling, and ultimately deadly.

Things can happen...  bad things..

Any surgery have risk... no matter how good the patient or the doc is...

At the same time - car crash can happen - and happens all the time - yet most of us still drive.

People die in plane crash (my brother did) yet I still get on a plane a few times a year...

Life - things can happen...

can you elaborate?

Complications are real. They can happen...Majority do just fine.. with justminor issues that can and do get resolved...

some - have it worse..

That's why it is critical to be sure that what you can handle what the  universe has for you.

When I got to a point - 8 years ago - I was MO and sick and tired of constant battle... losing and gaining the same 10 lbs.. I decided to have RNY... so I could have a chance of having more normal life...

some issues I deal with now , 8 years post op RNY can be related to the WLS... but I'll never know if I wouldn't have that without it...

I deal with them.. some days better than others...

SPOT ON!

I, too, got to a point where the NORMAL MO life was so bad that complications from RNY might be the same or an IMPROVEMENT as long as they were complicaitons with weight loss. My labs were all over the place in bad ways, I had back surgery and look liked I needed another, my knees and feet hurt and my feet and ankles would swell so much if I put them up for just 2 hours,I would urinate out 2-4 lbs of fluid.

I had/have depression with bouts of anxiety.

So much has physically and mentally improved after my surgery, I cant recommend it enough!  But one has to be prepared for the super bad stuff IF it does happen.

None of us really can expect to be the same as everyone else. We all are different. I know there are some scary stories out there about people having complications.

I know I did the right thing by having the surgery. I know when I go to a party I can actually sit on a chair. I can walk almost five miles at one shot. Before I could only walk half a block. Not able to go up and down stairs.

I do think we need to worry about complications. But the complications of not having the surgery could be worse.

Ask questions. Everyone is here to help you.
