Dumped for the first time
How much sugar was in the dressing?

I'm not convinced that it was the dressing. (granted it doesn't matter if I'm convinced or not :) You really didn't ingest much. It could have even just been the lettuce/salad. I'm 9 weeks out and just started adding some veggies ONLY IF I've reached (or plan to reach) my protein goal for the day.

I am so sorry you had to experience this. Post op has been a challenge for you if i recall- with getting your water in and your protein in the early days . I am 2 weeks behind you. 6 days post op. I am still on water and protein shakes- and i know that everyone is different.
as i read through my materials for the billionth time one of the points was if you feel like you are uncomfortable, nauseous etc, then go back to the previous stage for a couple of days.
Might help to go back to what you were on before this- purees? liquids? Give your system a little break.
I have to be honest here- it scares the **** out of me that recovery nutrition plans are so vastly different- if yours allowed salads / dressings at 3 weeks out- i would seek out a different nutritionist or go by the veterans here who have been successful at getting and keeping the weight off.
I know i will. I ate for pleasure at diff times in my life when i went up and down on the scale. i jsut had my friggin guts rearranged so i can have a long healthy and active life. I want to play with my daughter and go hiking and take up running when it doesnt hurt my joints, and get back to weight lifting. I want to eat to live, not live to eat!
This is a huge change for us. If you are pushing the envelope on what you can eat- maybe a little dressing on top of something pureed, take a step back and see if you can figure out a puree that has flavor and protein, maybe mix tuna with avocado and salt and pepper. See what nourishing and compliant food you might enjoy.
if you are having a hard time over all- go see the psych at the practice, that is what they are there for. They want you to WIN at this. NOT to be miserable, and pushing the envelope on your pouch.
We all want you to do well and me to do well, and everyone who embarks on this journey- or we may as well have never done this.
call the Nut and the psych at the dr. go check in with them. go back one stage, to liquids, get your fluids in, love yourself, if you went off plan, forgive yourself and move on.
you can do this!

I don't want to say that I'm glad that you dumped, but I kinda am. Not because I'm a sadist or anything, but because this was a learning experience for you. I LOVE thousand island dressing. pre-op it was my go to dressing. Since surgery I haven't touched it, and I'm able to eat salads. I miss it a lot, but honestly I am not willing to go there since it IS high in calories and sugar.
What I do now is use plain greek yogurt and mix in a ranch powder packet for any dips/sauces. it's not as bad and can give a boost of protein as well. I could probably make my own dressing that is similar to thousand island and use reduced sugar ketchup and splenda for sweetener. I think I am going to try it and see what I can do.
Try to explore some surgery friendly options for sauces/flavors. I'm sorry you dumped, but not really. I know this will stick out in your mind and keep you from making the same mistake again.
Keep on keeping on!

ME TOO! I dump with too much sugar and the fear of "that feeling" and maybe even barfing in public scares me straight. Sometimes, I just want a snickers bar soooo bad. But then I picture myself puking in the public bathroom at work and having one of the snotty girl bosses come in and giving me "the look" that say "I bet you are puking cuz you had a liquid lunch at the bar!!" and it totally makes me drop THE SNICKERS bar.
I am not sure how compliant or successful I would have been if I werent a dumper. I would like to think that I still would have done well but one never knows...

Three pounds below Goal!!! Yay !
Your comment about puking in the bathroom at work cracked me up because that was me yesterday! I had a piece of spicy chicken jerkey that was way dryer than normal and it got stuck and, well, you know...
As I was in the bathroom puking, I just kept thinking "great, if someone walks in now they are going to think I have lost all this weight because I am bulimic!"
I dump too so I know exactly how it feels! Been there done that! You need to really focus on reading every label carefully. Sugar sneaks in to so many things you would not expect. Take this as a lesson learned early on. I consider my dumping a blessing. Most of my obesity was from the sweets that I absolutely loved. Now I have a very easy time turning them down when I think of how I will feel. Makes"No thank you!" really easy to say!
Thank you all for your replies. I learned the hard way that I was trying to do more than what my stomach was ready for me to do. I have decided to go back to my liquid diet for this week and see how I do (especially since my weight loss has stalled) I need to focus more on protein and move away from the potatoes and cream of wheat. My stomach is different and I need to respect that.
