I am facing my 6 month follow up, However my 6mo was on the 8th of this month and for some reason Im starting to worry

I went into surgery at 403 lb and today 6 months later Im 297... I feel 1000% better and life has improved so much but with my 6 month follow up coming Friday I am worried I am going to get jumped for not losing more. Ive lost 106 in 6 months but feel like I should have lost more mentally.

WOW WEE! I think you have done an amazing job! 106 lbs lost in 6 months is great! Your dr. will probably be doing a happy dance!

That's nearly 18 lbs a month.... I've noticed a lot of patients reporting a 10 lb per month weight loss .... I think you'll be safe from the dr being disappointed !! Great job!

I think you are right on track!!  I was at 272 at day of surgery...I hit goal (190) in six months and 10 days.  Men tend (in general...No flaming) to loose the weight faster...We have a larger muscle structure.  So, we can move more...burn up more energy and loose it quicker (if we keep up on our diet).  You are doing fine.  Your labs well tell you a lot when you see the doctor.  Each person's weight loss happens at different times.  Keep working your tool and you should be fine.  Brian

You worry because you did not lose enough...or becuse you did not follow the post op diet very closely and feel if you did - you could have been closer to the goal?

If you did your best - good for you.

But - if you just took the WLS for granted and was not very compliant with the diet - you need to change that.

First 6 months - almost always - no matter what you do - the surgery will help you lose weight... After that. And long term - it is all us. Following proper diet... Because if you don't - you not only are going to face deficiencies but also weight gain...

I have been battling a stricture every since day one they take me and widen it and a few weeks later it narrowing again due to a ulcer that formed on right after surgery. I eat very little mostly 3 premire protein shakes per day... All meat, fish, eggs and cheese make me vomit with in 2 min it hitting my stomach. I eat stuff like Kashi cereal, Oatmeal, Fresh Veggie Juice, nut.. Ive not followed it strictly because 90% on plan makes me sick so i eat what doesnt and very little of it.. Like yesterday ended day with 2 Premire shakes, and 3/4 of a pack of Weight Control Oatmeal

They need to open you up again... Eating like that is not normal.  I hope you can get things resolved.

Good luck.

I had my surgery on September 8th, and just had my 6 month post op visit yesterday. I was stressing like you are too.. I've lost 87 lbs so far, and to my surprise, my surgeon was extremely impressed with my results.

I know we put a tremendous amount of pressure on ourselves to lose more, but as long as you're doing what you're suppose to, you have no worries. Your body is going to do what it is going to do, so just relax and enjoy the journey. :)

You're doing AWESOME!

Go get it open again...Some (a very small amount of people) have to go back 3-4 times to get a stricture resolved.  Tell your doctor!!  I know it's no fun, but your health is at issue.  Good luck on your journey.  Brian

Did you EVER think you would see the day where you are worried if losing over 100 pounds is enough?    You have done an amazing job and as others said get with your surgeon and fix your issue.  We look forward to your updates!
