Cooking post-op?
At first you will be eating pretty differently and may not want to see/eat with everyone until more normal eating 8 weeks or so in. If you do just keep in mind why you started, that it is going to be better soon, maybe utilize some gift cards or coupons to send your brood off for dinner on days you are feeling weaker in resolve/emotionally drained. It's better not to have the smells on those days. I cried great big ugly tears 2 weeks out... 4th of July BBQ smell from the neighbors sent me over the edge LOL. It wasn't pretty.
But after a few months... eating isn't really too different and... most American diets are too heavy on the carbs so most people can benefit from a little carb reduction so don't feel bad for axing some from everyone's plates ;)

Best wishes on your surgery!!
I have 4 kids and a hubby at home, I cook all our meals from scratch 98% of the time. I normally make a low carb meal that I can eat, then add a carb for them if needed. But it doesn't hurt my family to eat low carb meals. Sometimes I will make them rice or potatoes to go with dinner, and I just don't eat that part!
Much like the others said,I cook variations of the same meal sometimes. For instance steak for both of us (usually we share one),green beans for me and potatoes or a pasta side for hubby. Tonight was steamed shrimp and broccoli for me and the shrimp added to fettuccine Alfredo for hubby. I make spaghetti and meatballs and save some meatballs aside for me. Sometimes I use my Vegetti pro and make zucchini noodles to go with mine. It is totally doable. Congratulations on your upcoming surgery. It will be the best decision ever!
