Flying and post RNY
Hi all!
UI may be just nervous as I haven't traveled in a long time but I have a few worries. I am almost 10 months post RNY. I am down 134 lbs and this will be my first trip non obese! That is awesome. But I have a fear fears and I will will be 100% honest...I know nothing about this so they may be a little irrational. lol
I haven't had a sign of a problem since my surgery. Are blood clots a problem flying this far past you r surgery?
Airplane food sucks...any suggestions since you can't take food on?
How do you pack all the vitamins and supplements?
Is there anything else I should worry about? lol
Thanks in advance as always!!!!

You can definitely take food on the plan. I recommend Protein Bars and Beef or Turkey Jerky. You can take dry protein poder, but no liquid protein drinks. You will love travelling post-RNY. Seat belts are a non-issue. I have traveled many times, no issue with blood clots. Good luck.

As Cory said - you can take food but not liquids. I always carry food with me. And once I am passed security - I buy at least one bottle of water. 2 for longer flights -trips. I carry little packs of things to flavor my water with. In case of imo-type drops, that is small enough to put in the zip lock bag for liquids for security gate... Never had problems.
I also take my vitamins and minerals in small zip bags... Pills, capsules... I did not have problem with that either.
Just in case - I have wet wipes with me... Just in case...and spare undies..easily accesible. Lol..
I don't trust most airport foods, except nuts. Lately I see a lot of different protein bars in airport convenience stores, but unless it is brand you know and you know how your body would react to it (i.e gas) I would not recommend that...
Since my butt is rather bony now - and settling for long time can be an issue - I started carting my "gell butt pillow."..the plane seats are so uncomfortable...

You can totally take food onto planes. Every time I fly, I take food and drinks with me. They won't let you take drinks through the TSA check, but they will let you take drinks (bottle of Diet Coke, water, etc) you bought afterwards in the gate area.

I am not a doctor, but I play one at work.
I traveled week before last- granted it was a short 3 day trip. My dr said if it is a longer flight get up once an hour and stretch your legs.
I've been on a 4 hour trip with no issues.
the best part is that I can cross my legs in the chair!
I agree on the protein bars- sometimes you can find quest ones or powercrunch ones. Most of the ones in airports are very high in sugar. once you get to where you are going, you can go to walmart or drugstore where there is better selection.
beef jerky is good too. just don't pack the liquid shakes- they will make you throw them away at the security terminal.
I packed my vitamins in little sized bottles and didn't have issue.
if you are flying delta and they offer food- they have roast beef sliders that I got and threw the bread away.
I just returned from India. 14 hours on one plane, then 2.5 on another. Key is drinking a lot of water. I find that more important than the protein shakes. I personally can usually eat the food on the plane. And in this case it was awesome indian food which is all protein and veggies. There's usually a protein and veggies on other flights though. You can pack your favorite protein bars with no problem. I almost always have boiled eggs with me. They travel well. You can also bring cheese, so string cheese is a good option. You can also take turkey or chicken...and now you can get salmon and tuna in the foil packages which also travel well, if you are afraid of the airplane food. One thing to remember...jerky is so very heavy with sodium if you choose that...make sure you really drink a lot of water.
Life is not a dress rehearsal.

If it's an international flight, you'll be able to eat parts of the meal. If it's a short flight, you don't really need to eat, just drink. At 10 months, you don't need to be worrying about protein shakes on a plane, you should be more than capable of eating. I flew from NY to Singapore, an 18 hour flight, at 3 months post RNY and made it just fine.
Managing my 1 year old son was way more stressful than what I was going to eat lol
