How many calories did you eat after surgery?

Hello All,

I am had RNY-Surgery two weeks ago and am still in the purred food stage.

Since starting my Protein Phase 10 days before surgery until today I already lost 26 Pounds and I feel amazing....

I am already planning my Normal Food Stage and have the following questions:

a) what kind of Calorie Tracker did you use?

b) and how many calories did you allow yourself?

c) I can already tolerate a portion size of around 150-200 gr. Is this too much food?

I would really like to loose weight on a normal pace and not to fast - I am really concerned about loose skin and live style change.

The last time I lost 50 pounds was with Optifast and 800 kcal. a day! Of course I gained it all back and more.

So this time my motto should be: Slow and Steady!

Any suggestions?

I understand your fear about losing too fast with the surgery because of your previous experience, but because you now have the tool for keeping the weight off, you should try to lose as fast as possible. If your skin is going to "bounce back" it will, no matter how long it took you to lose the weight. This surgery is designed to make you lose weight very quickly. Take advantage of it and don't waste any time with this wanting to go slow.  change your motto to: lose it fast and stick to plan!  It CAN stay off this time.

That being said, I am 7.5 months post op and I try to keep my calories under 800 a day. Early on i was getting maybe 600 or so, 700 if I had something higher in calories. I have lost 112lbs and need to lose almost 40 more to meet my goal. I'm really trying to keep my calories as low as possible to keep the weight loss going.

Try to keep your carbs low as well, this is REALLY important. I just went through a stretch were I stopped losing all together. I lost 5lbs in the 6 weeks, and that may sound good, but compared to how I was losing before that it was bad.

I completely disagree!! Weight loss surgery is different. We need to lose it as fast as possible. It is much easier to lose it all if you do it quickly rather than purposely drag it out.

I agree with the ladies, you want to lose the weight as quick as you can. You will have stalls at certain times in your journey but don't give up those will pass.

I am 3 months out as of today and i have lost 50 pounds, no sagging skin except for that dreaded thigh area that rubs all the time lol.

You will feel better seeing the weight drop quick and it will empower you to keep going to lose the weight you desire to shed.

good luck on your journey

This journey is totally different than any other weight loss time. I agree with the other posters on the need to lose as quickly as possible. You will not absorb some of the calories you eat for only a set period of time,so use this to your advantage. Lose the weight as quick as you can and most importantly eat the amount your surgeon requested. The most I am to eat at a meal is one cup of food and I am almost 4 years out. I was told to eat one cup total at abit less than a year out. One cup is 225 grams of food so 200 grams is a lot at your stage. The best bet is to measure the amount your surgeon suggested and then stop, not to see what you can tolerate. It's all a learning curve and you will get it too!

A) I (and many others here) use MyFitnessPal and I love it.

b) I set my calorie goal to 800/day. I'm 9 weeks out and only within the last week have crossed the 600/day mark. Before now I could only eat 400-550 calories per day range. Just wasn't hungry and physically felt like I couldn't get more in. My "extra" calories now come as I've added in some veggies with a little ranch or something, but only if I'm still hungry after reaching my protein goal for the day (65-70grams).

C) I can only stomach about 2 oz of protein at a time (not sure what that is in grams). If it's liquid or smooshy there's a little more room, but I weigh or measure everything and then try to listen to my gut. Last night for example I weighed out 2.29 oz grilled chicken, but it didn't sit well and I couldn't fini****

I looked it up and 225 grams is one cup or 8 ounces of food. So 200 grams is a lot at this stage.

I am not !!!! On a diet so I don't count calories but I am do keep an eye on them. At 13plus years there is absolutely no way I could eat a cup of anything. Please trust me the 'secret ' is portion control. Thinking of today I am sure I was around 600 calories. I eat often but very little at a time and try always have protein first. I have never had a protein shake . I also limit processed lunch meat.
