Feeling low, one week after RNY with complications
on 3/16/16 12:57 pm
I am glad you are alive, too. What a scary experience, and so unexpected. What a lot of stress. I am glad you posted here, and I hope you get the rest you need and that people around you will be patient as your body and mind adapt to what happened. I hope you come back here often to for any support you might need, and to share how you are doing.
I think that even for those of us who did not have major complications, for most of us, we think of the surgery as a difficult physical change, and that memory helps us strive to do right by our decision and make it count. That will definitely be a strength for you going forward.

Thanks so much for the support. This is an amazing forum and I am counting my lucky stars for having found it.
I just came back in from a walk around my village and some fresh spring air. My pouch is behaving well and I am on full fluids (knock on wood) without any issue. I am aiming for my protein requirements of 60-70g a day, which I have been able to get in with protein powder and food choice.
I have a follow up appointment tomorrow with the bariatric clinic.
Thank you again for all your replies. You have cheered me up - it is good to be on the loser's bench!

Phew! So pleased to hear you are feeling much better. Hopefully you are on the up now and will improve every day. Stay strong and take care of yourself. Hugs.
Wow... That is an amazing adventure and I pray that everyday your load gets lighter. I also had my surgery on 9 Mar 16. I did have to stay a little longer, but for nothing major.
My story is definitely not as traumatic as yours but I still have moment of "buyers remorse". From what I have read on the forum it normal. Right now I'm try to do everything I can to make it worth the journey.
Hang in there...we all just take it one day at a time.
i will definitely keep you in my prayers.

The best part of this story is that your here with us to share it. I don't blame you for feeling sad, angry, scared...whatever emotions you go through, work through it. Don't suppress it thinking you should feel differently, own it, deal with it and try to move past it.
Hang in there! It will become worth it-- and I think your experience will make you that much more determined to succeed.

Criminy, you've had a really hard time.
We ALL have buyer's remorse at first, even those of us that have no complications at all. So I can only imagine what's going through your head.
So far, you've had negative after negative, and none of the good things. But in the coming weeks, as you heal and get your strength back, your life will start improving in ways you can't yet imagine. It will ALL be worth it.
Hang in there, and please keep us updated.

That you are up and walking today is a miracle. What a trauma you went through.
Did the docs tell you that you probably won't lose much weight for a while? With all you've been through you are going to have big shifts of fluids and your body has a lot of healing to go through. Don't panic about that. The weight will come off.
Take care,

Hi Mac, thank you for sharing your story. Thank goodness you are still here with us, and that you have an awesome surgeon and great ICU team. Sorry you had such complications. I didn't have any complications but my first three months post op were hard, very hard. I was tired all the time, I was sad, I had a super hard time adjusting to my new life. Getting water & protein in was so hard. My point is what you are feeling (minus all your surgical complications) is normal.
You are a fighter, you will get better this will get easier. Rest, sleep, walk if you can, sip your water, get some protein in. We are all routing for you. Do come here for support if needed.
I wish you the best!

Be kind to yourself, you have really had a rough go of it. Take things slow, I have had blood transfusions (non WLS related) and I know it takes awhile for your body to build up strength if you needed that.
When you start feeling better and the victories start coming hopefully this will just be a small blip of the screen of your life.
