Whiplash & in pain - what can I take?
Long story short, I was in a car accident last Friday, I'm fine in that my car is fine and I'm okay. It was minor but it was on the highway going 75 mph so my neck is screwed up. My neck, shoulders, and base of my skull hurt. A LOT. I'm going to a chiropractor who I like and getting it taken care of - I got x-rays and generally I'm okay. But damn I hurt! The longer the day goes the more I hurt. A TENS unit and heat helps when I come home from work. Tylenol does nothing - but it usually does when I get a normal headache since RNY a year ago.
My chiro and my BFF who is a chiro's wife both say ibuprofen is the best thing in this case. I haven't had any since the surgery for obvious reasons. What can I take in this case that could help? I was in tears last night. And keep in mind chiropractors - at least here - can't prescribe.
TIA

Over the counter, Tylenol is it. For prescriptions, tramadol is usually the go-to. I really, really would stay away from NSAIDS.

You may be a lucky one and not get issues with NSAIDS... Or you may be like me, or some of us that even a couple of them can cause serious issues.

Thanks everyone. That's what I was afraid of. I can't take rx pain meds during the day because I'm working and driving a total of 2 hours beyond that for my commute. When I'm home I can do the heat/tens unit combo to lessen the pain which I would greatly prefer over meds.
I just wanted to make sure I wasn't overlooking anything obvious here that I could take. Apparently not!

Tramadol is not a narcotic, and you should be able to drive ok with it. Talk to your doc.
