What's On Your Tuesday Menu, RNYers?
Good Tuesday morning, you guys! Lemme ask you something; is anybody really that affected by daylight savings time? I can see maybe if you have small children, but my Facebook feed is just cluttered with posts from (adult) people cursing the time change. How can you be that put out by a one hour time difference? My SIL has been complaining since before we even turned the clocks forward. I just don't get it. I apologize for my disbelief if you happen to be a "sufferer" (LOL), so please enlighten me.
It's food day again here in Patient Accounting; March birthdays, I think. le sigh. And yesterday was "Muffin Monday", which is our 2 month long fundraiser for the American Heart Association. How's that for irony? LMAO Although, yesterday it was my turn and I made some delicious whole wheat apple pumpkin gingerbread muffins that had better damn well win the $10 Wegmans gift card. There's so much food here alllll the time, but I think my menu is a good one today so it should be relatively easy to stick to it. That being said, the QOTD is:
What's on your pizza? LOL Don't even try and tell me you don't like pizza, because that's weird and then I can't be your friend anymore. LMAO j/k My favorite slice is garlic pizza; the kind with no tomato sauce. I like it all ricotta cheesy and garlic buttery. Mmmmm...

Funny you should ask that particular QOTD, because last night I ate pizza. I haven't had pizza since I started losing weight, so this was the result of a very high stress day for me, which is still no good excuse. I love all pizza. Seriously, I never met a pizza I didn't like, but I really love it with real mozzarella slices and supreme (sans anchovies, blech).

I'm with you, AV, on the whole Day Light Savings time thing. I mean, yes, it is generally a stupid idea that is no longer remotely necessary, but COME ON! Stop complaining about it - my feed has also been littered with whiners. Honestly this year I've been very happy for it because for the last two weeks I've been waking up at like 5:30 because of the sun coming up - so yesterday and today I was much happier for the extra 30 minutes of sleep before my alarm went off!
Pizza?! Why are you making me think of pizza, damnit! It would be easier to ask what pizza I don't like... Pica's might be my favorite since moving to Philly - which is a place, not a topping or whatever. But it's this weird, square pizza with the sauce ON TOP OF THE CHEESE - it's so good, there's just something about it. I don't even want toppings. Here's Tina Fey and Jimmy Fallon enjoying it:

So, let's talk about night time/boredom eating. It comes up a thousand times a day here on OH - but talk to me about how you combat it? I do great sticking to my plan all day long and then 9pm hits and it's like my brain goes haywire! Last night I had my planned snack of pumpkin seeds and a Chobani tube, but then I just kept going - I had ANOTHER Chobani Tube AND a spoonful of peanut butter AND some almonds AND a little packet of Nutella (lesson learned, even in little packets it can not come into my house). So essentially in the span of like 30 minutes I had like 350 unplanned calories.

I'm making you think about pizza because I'm thinking about pizza. If I'm going down, I'm taking all of you with me.
As for the nighttime grazing, I wish I knew the answer because I struggle with that as well. Maybe drink something instead of eating? Chew gum or mints?
Man, those ideas are crap. LOL
Nite eating deserves a thread of it's own. Honestly, I have found no way to avoid it. None. The best I can do is try and manage it. And even that has evolved, as I've found ways to break my own rules.
What's worked best is just sticking to a calorie budget for the day. On a few occasions, I have literally put my food for the day into a pile and said to myself "There. That's what you can eat today. Eat it whenever it will make you happiest." Generally speaking, eating less earlier, and saving calories to indulge in night eating always makes me happiest. And the stuff I save for night is always the tastiest choices.
I am always hungry first thing in the morning. But I find that if I drink, the hunger goes away. Sometimes I am just fine going until noon without food. More calories for later!!! So instead of eating from 8:00 am until 6:00 pm, I can eat from 12:00 pm until 10:00 pm. They are both ten hour windows for food, and both are the same identical choices and calories. My body doesn't care at all -- it's the same nutrition. But my head is much, much happier.
I don't do this all the time. I've gone through phases when it's been a necessary adjustment to avoid those extra night time calories.

I try to minimize the nighttime grazing with smart options. I have started keeping celery with a ranch dip made from plain greek yogurt. The celery is a huge filler for my little pouch, and the yogurt is at least a decent way to get a little bit of taste without killing the rest of my plan. I can only eat so much celery before my pouch starts protesting.
I totally want to try Pica's! That looks tasty.
Nighttime eating... I find if I workout in the afternoon rather than morning I am much less likely to eat at night. Also, I find going to bed is usually the correct answer if I am eating out of boredom. Otherwise I really try to drink a large glass of water and go to bed. Sleep is so much better than calories :P
