Chinese Take Out
So, I'm in sorta maintenance. I was wonderring what you all thought of Chinese takeout. I usually order schizuan chicken, or beef and brocolli. I don't order combination plates, therefore no spring roll and I skip the rice. I am not concered about the sodium. I need it for my sports training. I also don't mind some fat, just not sure if the stirfry oil is really unhealthy. I'm not sure if it is a healthy choice or considered a once month item. I will be on the road and living in a tent thus no warm food. I will be exercising 5-8 hours a day. Last month, I was in Florida training for a long bicycle ride. I would eat out a couple of times a week at Chinese takeout. One portion would be lunch and later dinner. I was always perplexed whether it was healthy or junk food.
I am bicycling from 50-100 miles per day. I need calories, I need vegetables. I will be working on speed, so intensity will be up and I will be burning a lot of calories. I don't mind losing 2-3 pounds a month, but I am not working on losing weight.
So, what say ye, bad or good.

As long as you aren't choosing the deep fried choices.... Chinese can work.

For more WLSers some of the choices would be too carby but you are burning so much.
Best wishes on your bike adventures... they sound cool. You should consider blogging about them (if you do already I'd love the link to read)

Thanks everyone for your input, I can now relax and eat Chinese. I prefer to get my exercise carbs from fruit and veggies as they are complex and don't burn out so quickly. I really struggle with food choices when I am training. First you gain water weight with the new muscles, then you gain water when exercising in the sun (your body wants to make sure you are hydrated--so it keeps water around until the middle of the night :)) So, I always gain weight when I am exercising then proceed to lose 5 pounds a week after a cycling event.
I remember wearing my fat clothes on the beginning of a week long ride and thinking my skinny clothes would fit later in the week--they never did. However, being overweight, my body would hold on to extra water to make sure I survived. I usually gain from 5-10 pounds when I do week-long bicycle rides then the following week lose 15 pounds.
I am not going to be taking my scales, it is too discouraging. I did get accepted at the lottery for a bike ride in Colorado in June. It is called Ride the Rockies. What makes the ride difficult is the climbing at elevation. It is one thing to cycle hard, climbing mountains one day, but to be ready to do it for 6 more days is where the training comes in. You have to train so your body learns to recover and be ready to ride the next day after your leg muscles are sore.

Hey surgery sister. So awesome that you are doing so well. Personally, I think Chinese is awesome.
I'm still working on my loss. You are an inspiration! I hear that the program has a 1 year anniversary celebration. I hope to get to see you then.
We also really need to try to meet up for lunch at some point, if you're in town. I have never gotten together with Dena as I had hoped.
Chinese takeout can be a great choice. I like Egg Foo Yung, you can have it with beef, shrimp or chicken and it's got veg and protein. Some of the stirfry dishes have a lot of sauce that is thickened with cornstarch and they can also contain a a fair amount of sugar in the sauce.
Amazing job with the biking. That is a gruelling task to bike for 5-8 hours a day.
