How quickly does the weight come off? Should I wait to purchase clothes?
I don;t know how fast you will lose on opti-fast. When is your surgery date - once you have surgery, don't plan on wearing clothes for more than 6 weeks or so, without taking them in. I had enough stuff in my closet (from 3x to 12), so I bought very little until I got closer to goal weight. I took my favorite clothes in and got another month or so out of them.
Buy less than you get rid of.

I spent way too much on clothes that only fit for 2-3 weeks. My advice, definitely just get a few necessities until you get near goal...(like one pair of jeans instead of 2 or 3)... :)

Our Omaha WLS Support group is thinking about doing a clothing exchange at their meetings. You would bring clothing you've outgrown and hopefully someone in the earlier stages of weight loss can use it. I live 3 hours drive away from Omaha so I don't get to the support meetings regularly, but I think this sounds like a great idea!
If you MUST have them for your job, then you'll need to buy them more often. If not, wait as long as you can, and buy as little as you can. Otherwise, you'll be wasting money. There were sizes that I only wore twice before they were too big.

I found tops I could make last longer, but I couldn't stand baggy pants or bras for that matter. I would rather rotate between three and constantly wash them then walk around looking bad. I did buy bargain clearance at Macy's, Kohls, Old Navy etc even before I got to that size. Kohls and macys were great because you could still return it if it didn't end up working.

Oh my...For the first 2 years Good Will and/or ANY Donation stores were my BEST friend, (And some have great stuff....Calvin Klein, etc) where else can you get LEVI's or Bling-Bling shorts that would normally be 80$ for only 2-5$?!??! When you shrink out of them, donate them back and get your new smaller size. When I went about 8 months without any size changes then I began to invest in more permanent clothing...
But I still troll around the Good Will stores and find wonderful GREAT stuff in my size 6, and CHEAP is good! And the clothes are never "stained" or "Torn".... Good luck and have fun! It's all about the fun and the journey! :)
Warmly,
Jackie
