Today was the day! I have been out of surgery a little over ten hours.

I am having the worst mid back pain though. Did anyone experience this too? Ideas what caused it?

It is not unusual because you are on you back during surgery, and because of our high weight at surgery, it can cause back pain. Just think, you are on your way to that not being a problem anymore.

Your back pain may be from the gasses used to pump up your insides. A friendly suggestion to request either heat, ice, or a rotation of both to ease your discomfort. My worst was throat pain from maybe using too large a hose down my throat during surgery; thank goodness for ice chips.

Congratulations!! And yes- my back pain hurt worse than the anything! Ask for a heating pads. My nurses were so great and actually rubbed my back, but I'm not sure that would happen everywhere. Keep us updated!!

As other posters said some of the pain is from lying relaxed on the hard operating table and some is likely gas pain that may move up to your shoulders as you start moving around. Walk, walk and walk some more to get that gas moved out of your system. It really helps! Welcome to the losers bench!

Walk and fart or burp as soon as you feel you can.  Walk walk walk.  I also got out of bed and sat in my chair for awhile.  I'm a week out and believe me, you'll feel amazing soon!

Happy healing!!   I agree with the others about the benefits of walking ASAP.  I swear it helped me in every way.  Each day gets better and easier

Move your arms as though you are swimming. It helps relieve the gas
