I have a surgery date! Any advice on pre-op planning?
Ok, don't panic. Here's the deal - you are on the small end of the spectrum for weight loss surgery - the people that lose the most are the ones that have so much more to lose than you do.
So, your four pounds are like 10 pounds to someone twice your size~
It will be steady and progressive. And hey, you won't have saggy skin either. It's all a win!!
I keep telling myself that...technically I already lost 1/4 of my weight so I shouldn't complain, but when you see -12 then -9 when you see -4 it's like wtf! Lol but it's true if you look at the long run its amazing, plus how long would I go crazy for 4 lb loss pre op ...thanks for the kind words :) seeeeee we help each Other!
That is the best way to rationalize it! You've already lost 1/4 of your weight!!
Hey, I am looking at the upcoming surgeries and I am struck by how many people are opting for the VSG.
Did you consider that?
My doctor was all about the RNY. So much so that I really did not even consider looking more into the VSG.
See? Here I go... anxious annie strikes again.
Yes a lot of people and Drs are opting for vsg here too, its the new fad....it wasn't an option for me because of my health issues, I have pcos with insulin resistance, basically diabetes, and hypothyroid, so I needed the malabsorption...I've been off my diabetes meds since surgery day! Also I have bad heartburn, also not good for vsg... I PERSONALLY didn't have a choice, if I did, I would've still chose Rny, it's been around the longest, best known, I don't like trying new things lol, BUT that's just me. I know people who were very successful with sleeve and love it. Research and talk to your dr, that's the best I can tell you...they're both laparoscopic so it's not like that would be different.
Ahh, yes. I have GERD and I do think that's why she recommended RNY so quickly.
I also recall her saying that RNY is the gold standard and it's the most proven long term. So, I just agreed rather quickly that it was the best choice.
I am like you, not a fan of new fad-ish stuff. Give me the proven way. :)
Thanks - feel better yet again.
I can't agree more! I stocked up on protein shakes I loved before, now I can't stand them! The smells change. The first few days I thought everything was stinky. My husband couldn't even kiss me because I couldn't stand his breath. Now things have mellowed out, but I still smell the protein in the protein shakes. I do no sugar carnation instant breakfast. It is the only one I can tolerate.
Hi-- digging up an old post. I saw that you recently had surgery with the same surgeon I will be having mine with next week. How did everything go? Any tips on how to get through the surgery/hospital stay?
Thanks! :)
