I have a surgery date! Any advice on pre-op planning?
- Think about boarding your pets if needed. I'd not thought about my dog while my husband and I were going to be gone a day or two. Glad I remembered a few days ahead
- Pay your bills or other similar things so you don't have to worry about any of that silliness
- Have the food like broth, protein powders, and such already on hand and a plan of how you'll prepare those. Also make sure you like them cause if you hate them you might REALLY hate them when feelings sick and grumpy
- Have some special movies, books, games, or something new and fun to do when your feelings a little better but not yet fully up

The cake is a lie, but Starbucks is not.
I had one ounce measuring cups on hand. Skim milk, sugar free jello and Popsicles. I never did protein shakes. Had surgery 13 years ago at Mayo and my Dr didn't believe in them,BUT do what your dr says. I didn't worry about my protein the first few weeks, I worried about getting enough fluids in. Room temp milk worked wonders for me. I strongly feel the measuring is so important . You will not feel full, so many seek that 'full' feeling. This is a whole new ball game . I am going on 14 years post op and every single day I go by portion size. I drink fluids after 7 but never eat. It's such a mental issue. This is not, I repeat is not a diet!!! There is no, vacation so today I can eat all I want. This will be your new life. Don't test things to see if your surgery 'worked' it works, you need to think of food as a fuel for your body . Not something to be used in stress, etc. Best of luck !!
That's awesome! I'm 2 weeks post op...the advice I'd give you is don't go crazy buying shakes you like now...tastebuds change, and for me the hundreds $ I spent prep went down the drain, just had to buy unflavored to try in food....so although it's good to prep don't go tooooo crazy....otherwise sugar free Popsicles, sugar free jello, broth, check your book for what you plan allows. And start now, don't drink 30 min after a meal, it takes getting used to...and sip sip sip...I was a gulper and would drink a bottle in one sitting pre op....first time I took a gulp and not a sip....ugh lets just say learned my lesson. Good luck, it will be fine!
Hey thank you! I'm feeling great, no pain these days...first day isn't easy I won't lie but walk walk walk it helps. By the time I came home I took my pain meds only the first night then didn't need them...I had surgery tues and was back to work Monday. You will be fine, I had so much anxiety over it and I was pleasantly surprised... You'll be great and keep in touch we can motivate each Other!
That's so wonderful to hear!!
I hope I make such progress as you. I think we do such a number on ourselves with anxiety... I just want to get it done already!
What kind of work do you do? I am a makeup artist and do weddings every weekend. I have help lined up for the first couple of weekends after my surgery but honestly I would be thrilled to be back at it in a week or so. It's not heavy lifting or even physical. I can take my time at it too.
I am so inspired by you. Thanks for your kindness!! I would love to motivate each other.
I have a desk job, medical billing, which made it easy...I think you will be fine too, I mean more standing but that's probably better...you'll be a little sore, like after a crazy ab workout, but nothing unmanageable, I found work helped me because it kept my mind off it! Of course everyone is different and heals different but I think the norm is to be up and at em asap... My dr was amazing and pushed me he said if u feel good go to work Monday I don't need you home like a couch potato LOL
Aww thanks, I'm flattered, I really didn't do much to be honest, learning to drink and eat again... We all have our struggles, but this website and finding people to motivate you and answer questions has done wonders for me! My weight loss is slowing now, I only lost 4lbs last week, so I'm already panicking lol
