Pre-op question
I begin my pre-op diet on Monday 3/7 along with my last visit to surgeon before surgery on 3/21. I am so beyond excited and ready for this change in my life and I know I have the strength to make the best results for myself but I have recently stumbled. I found out my surgery date and the day I was to begin the pre-op diet a few weeks early and I quickly packed on the pounds because I had it stuck in my head that "I'll never get to eat the foods I love again". Did this happen to anyone else? My biggest fear is that the doctor is going to not see a loss of any kind and cancel my surgery. It's so frustrating. I'm just ready to begin the liquid diet process at this point and get it over with. Thanks for any response in advance.

Food funerals are fairly normal. A lot feel the I'll never get to eat this again frame of mind. Eating to the point of gaining, that's differs for everyone. (I had two food funerals, one fast food and one home cooked favorite. I didn't gain)
Hopefully your pre op first will at least bring you back where you were. Stick to it, its hard, but you don't want to risk your doc cancelling surgey.
i lost 14# on the pre op diet, stuck to it 99%. Your in the home stretch, don't jeopardize all you've worked for....or your health.

Thanks for the words of encouragement! I wish I would have joined this site sooner, before my food funeral lasted 2 entire weeks straight! Hopefully I get the all clear and get to finish. I'm not worried about the last step with the stage 2 liquid diet, I've bought everything and my head is in the game. :-)

I did it too. I said "good-bye" to foods I knew I'd never eat again. I did that before my 30 day pre-surgery diet started.
I lost 13 lbs during that 30 days, and I stuck to my diet 100%. Not everyone will have a huge loss in that time. I had the same worry as you, and voiced my concerns to the dieticians in my surgeon's practice. I was told that as long as I stuck to the diet, and was honestly trying my best, surgery wouldn't be cancelled.
My pre-surgery diet was Optifast, plus I got one food meal a day. I did that for 28 days. The last two days were liquids only- the day before surgery was clear liquids only. That last day was a lot easier than I thought it would be. I just kept myself hydrated, drank water and Propel frequently...and stopped at midnight. I wasn't even home that last day. My husband had a race, so I was at a race track-and we had massive car trouble on the way home. I just kept chugging my water ...lol. ( and praying we made it home. I had to drive my truck with an empty car dolly attached. I was freaking out the whole way. )
I woke up in between a memory and a dream...

I start my official pre op diet on wed. I thought I was supposed to start earlier so I was really watching and doing a great job. Then I took 4 days off. Had more than I should have. I am going to get right back on the horse because what I noticed ? Eating foods that I had been eliminating makes me feel poorly !! I fee hungover today and it's not from drinking !! I don't feel like I lost too much ground with all of my ha*****anges but picked up today right away and started with my protein coffee. 11 days for me and the. It's RNY. I have to just do a low fat low carb no sugar diet for a week - protein and veg and then clear fluids the day before.

I didn't do that. I had no desire to do that. My dietician and doctor both told me, Don't gain any weight once I did the First Weigh In, close to surgery. They also said that weight gain could affect insurance approval with some insurance. I lost 18 pounds before surgery. My doctor could see a difference and was happy. I had a one week liquid diet and that was tuff a couple of the days. Good Luck
