I am so disappointed!
So the surgery scheduler called yesterday with bad news. Apparently my surgeon has had an increase in the number of RNYs come through. The demand is far outpacing the OR "supply" as he operates at 1 hospital.
Long story short: my surgery is scheduled for JUNE. JUNE. Let me say that again to let it fully sink in. JUNE.
I know people probably wait that long for lots of things. Hearts, kidneys, lungs. Who am I kidding? I am not special. But I am sad that I have to white knuckle it until June.
As a side note: the surgeon is trying to negotiate with the hospital for more OR time. He also operates at an outpatient center, although I'm unsure how that works with an overnight stay. If something opens up, I should get to go earlier, but when it's March 4th, June seems...hmmm..3 months away!

I'm sorry you are disappointed. But this could be a good thing.
Most people seem to want this done yesterday. I put mine off for three months so I could get my ducks in a row, and I'm glad I did. You've been doing great so far, but the more prep you do, the better off you'll be.
After a certain amount of time postop, we all get tired of our new normal. Measuring food, thinking about food, everything about food. You will too. It's usually about one year when that hits.
Think of 3 extra months now as getting an extension on that expiration date. That's 25% more weight loss time. If you really use that time well, you can be that much closer to your goal, or pass it. That can make a huge difference. And instead of panicking after surgery, when you have NO CHOICE on so many things, you can use this time to really get your head ok with all that, because right now you do still have choices.
Go kick some ass. In the greater scheme of things, you can do 3 months standing on your head.

Highest weight was 475. RNY on 08/21/12. Current weight: 198.

I know you're right. I had a super stressful day at work yesterday, and my one thought driving home was how much I wanted some ice cream. I recognized it for what it was: my head's response to stress. At first I didn't care and honestly was going to get it anyway. But then I just willed myself to call my mother to distract me instead. I know I need to work on my head and some healthier coping mechanisms, and I guess I am being "gifted" this time to do just that!

That is a great win!!

When my surgeon told me that he wanted me to lost weight before surgery, I almost screamed at him - WHY BOTHER IT WILL ONLY COME BACK. But then my brain said - No, that is why you are having weight loss surgery. The promise of having weight loss surgery helped me make better decision during that pre-op period. It gave me hope after years of being a failed diet.
I will keep my fingers crossed for you that something opens up sooner. People do back out. Someone did not show up the day of my surgery -so be ready for a call any time. Just like being 8.9 months pregnant - Have all your paperwork complete. Keep your bag packed, etc. And get as healthy as possible before surgery. I don't know what you mobility level is but they will make you walk after surgery - so work on any mobility issues you have now. Best of everything.
PS I also did the math that Grim mentioned. The healthier you go into surgery, the healthier you come out of surgery and the closer you are to your goals. Like Dr. N said last week on My 600 Pound Life - it doesn't matter how fast you lose the weight what matters is that you do it healthfully. (Said in response to a man who was not eating or taking vits post surgery - after a month of that he as admitted to the hosp for 30 days to recover from malnutrition.)

That's the typical wait time here in Ontario. Gives you time to plan, prep and get your head ready. From referral to surgery was over 15 months for me.
im glad I had the time I did to prep, get organized and get my head ready.

Crappity crap. It sucks when you have to wait.
I got approval for my RNY in May2015, had to wait to get in to see the surgeon because they don't schedule over the phone, so that came in early June. I was hoping for a mid-July surgery, but they didn't have the date I wanted, so I was pushed to early August. It sucked, but it did give me time to really pull it all together.
hang in there, you totally have this. Take it one meal at a time.
I feel your pain. Mine too was rescheduled. I only had to wait 2 months but I was mentally ready for the first date I was given. I had the mindset that everything happens for a reason. I took that extra time to get better prepared for post surgery and it all worked out well. All the best on your journey.
