Scale falling?
4 days after surgery and I finally saw the scale drop a pound! I came home 3 pounds up (i'm thinking from the iv) and today I'm finally down 1 pound from the morning of surgery.
My query today is when did you start seeing the scale drop and how fast did it drop for you?
35 yrs HW 257 CW 224. Surgery date 2/29/16 with Dr. Jeffery Baker
I gained 11. It took over a week to break even.
6'3" tall, male.
Highest weight was 475. RNY on 08/21/12. Current weight: 198.
M1 -24; M2 -21; M3 -19; M4 -21; M5 -13; M6 -21; M7 -10; M8 -16; M9 -10; M10 -8; M11 -6; M12 -5.
I started losing as soon as I was out of the hospital. But I was in the hospital for a day or two (I had a bad fever after the operation). I was walking immediately a LOT (i.e. like 1-2 miles a day in bits and pieces. The nurses LOVED me cuz I was always up, walking, and/or talking to people when I wasnt sleeping).
I also retained water in my legs and feet so I had a leg riser and used it when I came home.
Everyone responds to the salts and holds water differently. Dont get too caught up in it.
RNY Surgery: 12/31/2013;
Current weight (2/27/2015) 139lbs, ~14% body fat
Three pounds below Goal!!! Yay !
Congrats for making it through the first post - op days. They were the worst for me.
If you are 100% compliant with your surgeon's instructions, you have no other control over how fast you lose the weight. For the first month, only weigh at your doctor's office, your body is going through huge changes - including getting the anesthesia out of your system. Keep weighing daily if you want to drive your self crazy - which, I respect, is your right. If you wait to weight you will be ELATED.
This video explains the factors that control how fast you lost the weight - the biggest factors are youth and heredity. But, if someone is compliant with instructions, there is no correlation between rapid loss and keeping it off long-term. If you are not 100% compliant, you may never reach your goal weight.
Several people have said to focus on what you are DOING, not what the scale SAYS. Whatever frequency you chose to weigh, they are 100% correct.

I gained 11 lbs., but because of all the info available here I was expecting it! I'm happy my sugars are coming down - 167 today from 235. I'm hoping to see some change in my weight by the time I go back for my post op visit on the 22nd.
