Gone too far
Hi
I hope that someone that has been around for a long time can give me some advice.
My wife had the surgery in 2010 she was 338 pounds and today she is 107.8 pounds and still going down. For a long time she was at goal at 143 pounds but all of a sudden she just started losing again. What can I do to help stabilise or even turn this around?
we have been back to the surgeon and all is still well with the pouch.
Having been "cleared" by the bariatric surgeon - she needs to see another physician. Weight loss can be a symptom of other diagnoses. I agree with her having a full lab study with vitamins, minerals - not just a CBC.
You didn't say, but I assume she is not "trying" to lose more weight? That weight loss is a "red flag" that something else may be going on.
Definitely get medical consultation.
Keep us informed as it may help others. I had my RNY in 2009 and would be interested in what you find out.

hi thanks for the feedback.
she has redone all the labs all was perfect except the iron a little low. We have been to see a few deferent surgeons but they all say the same thing change your diet and increase your protein. The reason for doing the surgery in the first place was she had clots on the Lung and had to be on oxygen all the time after the surgery everything came right but now she is back on the oxygen and the lungs are not good.
her height is 1.71.
our next step is to see a shrink.
thanks
How tall is she and what is her BMI? For me, 107 would be fine.
She may just be eating a lot less, may have anorexia or be bulimic. She could have a thyroid problem or a cancer. She may be diabetic or have some other disorder. At six years out, this is not likely to be related to her weight loss surgery.
She needs a different doctor and/or a therapist. You can't work on turning it around until you find out what is causing the loss.
Real life begins where your comfort zone ends
You say she stayed at one weight for a long time; a sudden change suggests either a physical and/or emotional change has taken place. It sounds steps have been taken to rule out anything physically wrong. Thus, I get the hint from your words "What can I do to turn this around" it might be some form of eating disorder developing? If so, that would probably mean for you to muster up as much patience, love, understanding, and even more patience as possible. Then, promise your support if she makes the choice to seek professional help. (If it were me, seeing this promise handwritten on paper would hold more significance and reading it alone would lessen my chances of becoming defensive).
I agree with everyone that suggested bringing her to another doctor. It is easy to jump to the conclusion that her current weight loss is somehow related to her surgery, but that is not necessarily the case. Sudden weight loss can be a symptom of many different things not related to wls.

Let me pretend to be a shrink. If a person doesn't feel they have control over their life, there is one thing she can control. Her body . The fact that you are asking the question instead of her kind of sends up red flag. Sorry, I say it like I see it. Back off about her weight and see what happens. FYI I at 10 years post op lost 25 and wasn't trying. I guess I simply was doing more and eating less.
